[मार्क] अजॊ नामाभवद राजा महान इक्ष्वाकुवंशजः तस्य पुत्रॊ दशरथः शश्वत सवाध्यायवाञ शुचिः ।। ३-२५८-६ ।।

sanskrit

'Markandeya said, "Listen, O prince of the Bharata race, to this ancient tale as it truly unfolded! I will recount to you the hardships endured by Rama along with his wife. There was a mighty king named Aja, born into the noble lineage of Ikshvaku."' ।। 3-258-6 ।।

[mArka] ajò nAmAbhavada rAjA mahAna ikSvAkuvaMzajaH tasya putrò dazarathaH zazvata savAdhyAyavAJa zuciH || 3-258-6 ||

sanskrit

'He had a son named Dasaratha, devoted to the study of the Vedas and ever pure. And Dasaratha had four sons, well-versed in morality and the principles of life, named Rama, Lakshmana, Shatrughna, and the mighty Bharata.' ।। 3-258-7 ।।

abhavaMsa tasya catvAraH putrA dharmArthakòvidAH rAmalakSmaNazatrughnA bharataza ca mahAbalaH || 3-258-7 ||

'Rama's mother was Kausalya, and Bharata's mother was Kaikeyi, while the mighty Lakshmana and Shatrughna, the destroyers of their enemies, were the sons of Sumitra.' ।। 3-258-8 ।।

'And Janaka was the king of Videha, and Sita was his daughter. Tvashta, the divine artisan, created her, intending that she should be the beloved wife of Rama.' ।। 3-258-9 ।।
