स चापि तान अभ्यवदत परसन्नः; सहैव तैर भरातृभिर धर्मराजः तस्थौ च तत्राधिपतिर महात्मा; दृष्ट्वा जनौघं कुरुजाङ्गलानाम ॥ ३-२४-६ ॥
'Meanwhile, the foremost of the Kurus, esteemed citizens, approached and circumambulated him in reverence. And the principal Brahmanas of Kurujangala cheerfully saluted him.' ॥ 3-24-6 ॥
english translation
पितेव पुत्रेषु स तेषु भावं; चक्रे कुरूणाम ऋषभॊ महात्मा ते चापि तस्मिन भरत परबर्हे; तदा बभूवुः पितरीव पुत्राः ॥ ३-२४-७ ॥
'The illustrious leader among the Kurus regarded them with the same affection a father feels for his sons, and they, in turn, cherished him as sons cherish their father.' ॥ 3-24-7 ॥
english translation
ततः समासाद्य महाजनौघाः; कुरुप्रवीरं परिवार्य तस्थुः हा नाथ हा धर्म इति बरुवन्तॊ; हरिया च सर्वे ऽशरुमुखा बभूवुः ॥ ३-२४-८ ॥
'The great assembly, gathering around the Kuru hero, showed their respect and devotion. And, O king, they were deeply moved and tearful, exclaiming, 'Alas, O lord! O righteous one!'' ॥ 3-24-8 ॥
english translation
वरः कुरूणाम अधिपः परजानां; पितेव पुत्रान अपहाय चास्मान पौरान इमाञ जानपदांश च सर्वान; हित्वा परयातः कव नु धर्मराजः ॥ ३-२४-९ ॥
'They said, 'You are the chief of the Kurus and the king of us, your subjects! How can you leave us, O just monarch, abandoning all these citizens and the inhabitants of the land, like a father abandoning his sons?'' ॥ 3-24-9 ॥
english translation
धिग धार्तराष्ट्रं सुनृशंस बुद्धिं; ससौबलं पापमतिं च कर्णम अनर्थम इच्छन्ति नरेन्द्र पापा; ये धर्मनित्यस्य सतस तवाग्राः ॥ ३-२४-१० ॥
'Fie on the cruel-hearted son of Dhritarashtra! Fie on the malevolent son of Suvala! Fie on Karna! For, O foremost of kings, those wretches harbor ill will toward you, who are steadfast in virtue.' ॥ 3-24-10 ॥
