अवश्यम एव नृपते राज्ञॊ विषयवासिभिः परियाण्य आचरितव्यानि तत्र का परिदेवना ॥ ३-२३८-४६ ॥
'It is not fitting for you, O King, to dwell in sorrow for long. It is the clear duty of those who reside in the king’s realm to act in accordance with the king’s will. Where is the cause for regret in this?' ॥ 3-238-46 ॥
english translation
मद्वाक्यम एतद राजेन्द्र यद्य एवं न करिष्यसि सथास्यामीह भवत पादौ शुश्रूषन्न अरिमर्दन ॥ ३-२३८-४७ ॥
'O King, if you do not act in accordance with my words, I shall remain here, devotedly serving at your feet.' ॥ 3-238-47 ॥

नॊत्सहे जीवितुम अहं तवद्विहीनॊ नरर्षभ परायॊपविष्टस तु नृपराज्ञां हास्यॊ भविष्यसि ॥ ३-२३८-४८ ॥
'O bull among men, I have no desire to live without your company. O King, if you resolve to end your life by forsaking food, you will only become an object of ridicule among other kings.' ॥ 3-238-48 ॥
english translation
[वै] एवम उक्तस तु कर्णेन राजा दुर्यॊधनस तदा नैवॊत्थातुं मनॊ चक्रे सवर्गाय कृतनिश्चयः ॥ ३-२३८-४९ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, 'Thus spoken to by Karna, King Duryodhana, having firmly resolved to leave the world, chose not to rise from his seat.'' ॥ 3-238-49 ॥
