तपॊ निःश्रेयसं जन्तॊस तस्य मूलं शमॊ दमः तेन सर्वान अवाप्नॊति कामान यान मनसेच्छति ॥ ३-२००-५१ ॥
'Spiritual wisdom is the prime requisite for salvation; resignation and forbearance are its roots. Through these, one attains all the objects of desire.' ॥ 3-200-51 ॥
english translation
tapò niHzreyasaM jantòsa tasya mUlaM zamò damaH tena sarvAna avApnòti kAmAna yAna manasecchati ॥ 3-200-51 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइन्द्रियाणां निरॊधेन सत्येन च दमेन च बरह्मणः पदम आप्नॊति यत परं दविजसत्तम ॥ ३-२००-५२ ॥
'By subduing the senses and through truthfulness and forbearance, he attains, O noble Brahmana, the supreme refuge of Brahman.' ॥ 3-200-52 ॥

indriyANAM niròdhena satyena ca damena ca barahmaNaH padama Apnòti yata paraM davijasattama ॥ 3-200-52 ॥

'The Brahmana then asked, 'O most virtuous and steadfast in the performance of religious duties, you speak of the senses. What are they? How can they be subdued?' ॥ 3-200-53 ॥

[barA] indriyANi tu yAnya AhuH kAni tAni yatavrata nigrahaza ca kathaM kAryò nigrahasya ca kiM phalama ॥ 3-200-53 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकथं च फलम आप्नॊति तेषां धर्मभृतां वर एतद इच्छामि तत्त्वेन धर्मं जञातुं सुधार्मिक ॥ ३-२००-५४ ॥
'What is the benefit of subduing them, and how does one reap the fruits of such restraint? O pious one, I seek to understand the truth of this matter.' ॥ 3-200-54 ॥

kathaM ca phalama Apnòti teSAM dharmabhRtAM vara etada icchAmi tattvena dharmaM jaJAtuM sudhArmika ॥ 3-200-54 ॥
