[मार्क] एवम उक्तस तु विप्रेण धर्मव्याधॊ युधिष्ठिर परत्युवाच यथा विप्रं तच छृणुष्व नराधिप ॥ ३-२०१-१ ॥
'Listen, O King Yudhishthira, to the response of the virtuous fowler, as he answered the questions posed by the learned Brahmana.' ॥ 3-201-1 ॥
english translation
[वयध] विज्ञानार्थं मनुष्याणां मनॊ पूर्वं परवर्तते तत पराप्य कामं भजते करॊधं च दविजसत्तम ॥ ३-२०१-२ ॥
'At first, men’s minds are focused on acquiring knowledge. Once they have attained it, O noble Brahmana, they become engrossed in their passions and desires.' ॥ 3-201-2 ॥

ततस तदर्थं यतते कर्म चारभते महत इष्टानां रूपगन्धानाम अभ्यासं च निषेवते ॥ ३-२०१-३ ॥
'To fulfill these, they labor tirelessly, undertake great tasks, and indulge in the pleasures they long for—be it beauty, taste, or other delights.' ॥ 3-201-3 ॥

ततॊ रागः परभवति दवेषश च तदनन्तरम ततॊ लॊभः परभवति मॊहश च तदनन्तरम ॥ ३-२०१-४ ॥
'Next arises attachment, followed by envy, then avarice, and finally the extinguishing of all spiritual clarity.' ॥ 3-201-4 ॥

तस्य लॊभाभिभूतस्य रागद्वेषहतस्य च न धर्मे जायते बुद्धिर वयाजाद धर्मं करॊति च ॥ ३-२०१-५ ॥
'When men are consumed by greed, overwhelmed by envy, and ensnared by attachment, their intellect strays from the path of righteousness, and they reduce virtue to mere pretense.' ॥ 3-201-5 ॥
