[मार्क] धुन्धुर नाम महातेजा तयॊः पुत्रॊ महाद्युतिः स तपॊ ऽतप्यत महन महावीर्यपराक्रमः ॥ ३-१९५-१ ॥

'Markandeya said, "O king, the renowned Dhundhu, son of Madhu and Kaitabha, was endowed with immense strength and valor. To gain favor, he subjected himself to severe ascetic practices, standing on one leg and reducing his body to a mere mass of veins and arteries."' ॥ 3-195-1 ॥

english translation

अतिष्ठद एकपादेन कृशॊ धमनि संततः तस्मै बरह्मा ददौ परीतॊ वरं वव्रे स च परभॊ ॥ ३-१९५-२ ॥

'He stood on one leg, emaciated, amidst intense heat, and Brahma, pleased with him, granted him a boon, which he fervently sought.' ॥ 3-195-2 ॥

english translation

देवदानव यक्षाणां सर्पगन्धर्वरक्षसाम अवध्यॊ ऽहं भवेयं वै वर एष वृतॊ मया ॥ ३-१९५-३ ॥

'And the boon he sought from Lord Prajapati was in these words: 'Let no one among the gods, the Danavas, the Rakshasas, the serpents, the Gandharvas, and the Yakshas be capable of slaying me.'' ॥ 3-195-3 ॥

english translation

एवं भवतु गच्छेति तम उवाच पितामहः स एवम उक्तस तत पादौ मूर्ध्ना सपृश्य जगाम ह ॥ ३-१९५-४ ॥

''This is the boon I seek from you,’ said he. The Grandsire replied, ‘So be it as you wish. Go on your way.’ Thus addressed by the Grandsire, the Danava placed the deity’s feet upon his head, showing his reverence.' ॥ 3-195-4 ॥

english translation

स तु धुन्धुर वरं लब्ध्वा महावीर्यपराक्रमः अनुस्मरन पितृवधं ततॊ विष्णुम उपाद्रवत ॥ ३-१९५-५ ॥

'Having thus honored the deity’s feet, he departed, endowed with great energy and prowess. Having obtained the boon, Dhundhu, filled with fury and remembering his father’s death at the hands of Vishnu, hastily approached the deity.' ॥ 3-195-5 ॥
