[यव] परतिभास्यन्ति वै वेदा मम तातस्य चॊभयॊः अति चान्यान भविष्यावॊ वरा लब्धास तथा मया ॥ ३-१३६-१ ॥
'Having attained his desired goal, Yavakri approached his father and said, "O father, the Vedas will be revealed to both you and me, and I have acquired boons through which we shall surpass all others."' ॥ 3-136-1 ॥
english translation
[भरद] दर्पस ते भविता तात वराँल लब्ध्वा यथेप्सितान स दर्पपूर्णः कृपणः कषिप्रम एव विनश्यसि ॥ ३-१३६-२ ॥
'Thereupon, Bharadwaja said, "O my son, having obtained the boons you desired, you will be filled with pride. But when pride overtakes you and you grow uncharitable, your downfall will follow swiftly."' ॥ 3-136-2 ॥

अत्राप्य उदाहरन्तीमा गाथा देवैर उदाहृताः ऋषिर आसीत पुरा पुत्र बालधिर नाम वीर्यवान ॥ ३-१३६-३ ॥
'O my son, there is a tale often recounted by the gods. In ancient times, there lived a sage named Valadhi, endowed with immense energy.' ॥ 3-136-3 ॥

सपुत्रशॊकाद उद्विग्नस तपस तेपे सुदुश्चरम भवेन मम सुतॊ ऽमर्त्य इति तं लब्धवांश च सः ॥ ३-१३६-४ ॥
'Grieved by the loss of his child, he undertook the most severe penances, seeking a child who would be immortal. And he obtained a son, as he had desired.' ॥ 3-136-4 ॥

तस्य परसादॊ देवैश च कृतॊ न तव अमरैः समः नामर्त्यॊ विद्यते मर्त्यॊ निमित्तायुर भविष्यति ॥ ३-१३६-५ ॥
'However, despite the gods being highly favorable towards him, they did not grant his son immortality, as they do with the Gods.' ॥ 3-136-5 ॥
