[अक] स वेदाध्ययने युक्तॊ जमदग्निर महातपः तपस तेपे ततॊ देवान नियमाद वशम आनयत ॥ ३-११६-१ ॥
'Akritavrana said, 'Jamadagni devoted himself to the study of the Vedas and practiced sacred austerities, gaining renown for his great asceticism. Through rigorous discipline, he mastered the entirety of the Vedic knowledge.'' ॥ 3-116-1 ॥
english translation
स परसेनजितं राजन्न अधिगम्य नराधिपम रेणुकां वरयाम आस स च तस्मै ददौ नृपः ॥ ३-११६-२ ॥
'Then, O King, he visited Prasenajit and sought the hand of Renuka in marriage. And this prayer was granted by the king.' ॥ 3-116-2 ॥
english translation
रेणुकां तव अथ संप्राप्य भार्यां भार्गवनन्दनः आश्रमस्थस तया सार्धं तपस तेपे ऽनुकूलया ॥ ३-११६-३ ॥
'The delight of Bhrigu’s lineage, having taken Renuka as his wife, settled with her in a hermitage. There, he practiced penances with her devoted support.' ॥ 3-116-3 ॥

तस्याः कुमाराश चत्वारॊ जज्ञिरे राम पञ्चमाः सर्वेषाम अजघन्यस तु राम आसीज जघन्यजः ॥ ३-११६-४ ॥
'She bore him four sons, with Rama as the fifth. Although the youngest, Rama surpassed all his brothers in virtue.' ॥ 3-116-4 ॥
english translation
फलाहारेषु सर्वेषु गतेष्व अथ सुतेषु वै रेणुका सनातुम अगमत कदा चिन नियतव्रता ॥ ३-११६-५ ॥
'One day, when her sons had gone out to gather fruits, Renuka, pure and steadfast in her austere life, went to bathe.' ॥ 3-116-5 ॥
