बृहदश्व उवाच दमयन्ती तु तच छरुत्वा भृशं शॊकपरायणा शङ्कमाना नलं तं वै केशिनीम इदम अब्रवीत ॥ ३-७३-१ ॥
'Vrihadaswa said: "Hearing all of this, Damayanti, stricken with deep grief and suspecting the man to be Nala, spoke to Kesini."' ॥ 3-73-1 ॥
english translation
गच्छ केशिनि भूयस तवं परीक्षां कुरु बाहुके आब्रुवाणा समीपस्था चरितान्य अस्य लक्षय ॥ ३-७३-२ ॥
'O Kesini, go once more and carefully examine Vahuka. Stand quietly by his side and observe his behavior closely.' ॥ 3-73-2 ॥
english translation
यदा च किं चित कुर्यात स कारणं तत्र भामिनि तत्र संचेष्टमानस्य संलक्ष्यं ते विचेष्टितम ॥ ३-७३-३ ॥
'And, O beautiful one, whenever he performs any skillful action, pay close attention to how he accomplishes it.' ॥ 3-73-3 ॥
english translation
न चास्य परतिबन्धेन देयॊ ऽगनिर अपि भामिनि याचते न जलं देयं सम्यग आत्वरमाणया ॥ ३-७३-४ ॥
'And, O Keśinī, if he asks for water or fire, do not be quick to provide it, for it may be a ploy to obstruct him.' ॥ 3-73-4 ॥
english translation
एतत सर्वं समीक्ष्य तवं चरितं मे निवेदय यच चान्यद अपि पश्येथास तच चाख्येयं तवया मम ॥ ३-७३-५ ॥
'Observe everything about his behavior and return to inform me. Whatever human or supernatural qualities you discern in Vahuka, along with anything else, must all be reported to me.' ॥ 3-73-5 ॥
