बृहदश्व उवाच अपक्रान्ते नले राजन दमयन्ती गतक्लमा अबुध्यत वरारॊहा संत्रस्ता विजने वने ॥ ३-६०-१ ॥
'Vrihadaswa said, 'O king, after Nala had departed, the beautiful Damayanti, now refreshed, timidly awakened in that lonely forest.'' ॥ 3-60-1 ॥
english translation
सापश्यमाना भर्तारं दुःखशॊकसमन्विता पराक्रॊशद उच्चैः संत्रस्ता महाराजेति नैषधम ॥ ३-६०-२ ॥
'And, O mighty monarch, not finding her lord Naishadha, she was overcome with grief and anguish, crying out in terror, 'O my lord! O mighty king!'' ॥ 3-60-2 ॥
english translation
हा नाथ हा महाराज हा सवामिन किं जहासि माम हा हतास्मि विनष्टास्मि भीतास्मि विजने वने ॥ ३-६०-३ ॥
'O husband, do you truly abandon me? I am lost and undone, terrified in this desolate place.' ॥ 3-60-3 ॥

ननु नाम महाराज धर्मज्ञः सत्यवाग असि कथम उक्त्वा तथासत्यं सुप्ताम उत्सृज्य मां गतः ॥ ३-६०-४ ॥
'O illustrious prince, you are known for your truthfulness and your commitment to righteousness. How could you, having pledged your word, abandon me while I slept in the woods?' ॥ 3-60-4 ॥

कथम उत्सृज्य गन्तासि वश्यां भार्याम अनुव्रताम विशेषतॊ ऽनपकृते परेणापकृते सति ॥ ३-६०-५ ॥
'Why have you forsaken your devoted and accomplished wife, especially one who has wronged you not, even though you have been wronged by others?' ॥ 3-60-5 ॥
