बृहदश्व उवाच सा नमस्कृत्य देवेभ्यः परहस्य नलम अब्रवीत परणयस्व यथाश्रद्धं राजन किं करवाणि ते ॥ ३-५३-१ ॥
'Vrihadaswa said, 'Damayanti, having bowed to the gods, smiled as she addressed Nala, saying, 'O king, love me with due respect, and tell me what you would have me do for you.'' ॥ 3-53-1 ॥
english translation
अहं चैव हि यच चान्यन ममास्ति वसु किं चन सर्वं तत तव विश्रब्धं कुरु परणयम ईश्वर ॥ ३-५३-२ ॥
'Myself and all that I possess are yours. Grant me, O exalted one, your love in full trust.' ॥ 3-53-2 ॥
english translation
हंसानां वचनं यत तत तन मां दहति पार्थिव तवत्कृते हि मया वीर राजानः संनिपातिताः ॥ ३-५३-३ ॥
'O king, the words of the swans burn me. It is for your sake, O hero, that I have gathered the kings here.' ॥ 3-53-3 ॥
english translation
यदि चेद भजमानां मां परत्याख्यास्यसि मानद विषम अग्निं जलं रज्जुम आस्थास्ये तव कारणात ॥ ३-५३-४ ॥
'O bestower of honor, if you abandon me, who adore you, I shall resort to poison, fire, water, or even the rope.' ॥ 3-53-4 ॥

एवम उक्तस तु वैदर्भ्या नलस तां परत्युवाच ह तिष्ठत्सु लॊकपालेषु कथं मानुषम इच्छसि ॥ ३-५३-५ ॥
'Thus addressed by the daughter of the king of Vidarbha, Nala responded, 'With the Lokapalas present, do you choose a mortal?' ॥ 3-53-5 ॥
