बृहदश्व उवाच दमयन्ती तु तच छरुत्वा वचॊ हंसस्य भारत तदा परभृति न सवस्था नलं परति बभूव सा ॥ ३-५१-१ ॥
'Brihadashva said, 'O Bharata, upon hearing the words of the swan, Damayanti lost all peace of mind from that moment, consumed by thoughts of Nala.'' ॥ 3-51-1 ॥
english translation
ततश चिन्तापरा दीना विवर्णवदना कृशा बभूव दमयन्ती तु निःश्वासपरमा तदा ॥ ३-५१-२ ॥
'And as she heaved frequent sighs, filled with anxiety, she grew melancholy, her face turned pale, and her form became slender.' ॥ 3-51-2 ॥
english translation
ऊर्ध्वदृष्टिर धयानपरा बभूवॊन्मत्त दर्शना न शय्यासनभॊगेषु रतिं विन्दति कर्हि चित ॥ ३-५१-३ ॥
'With her heart captivated by the god of love, she soon lost her color. With her gaze upturned and lost in thought, she appeared as one demented. She lost all desire for her bed, her seat, and any objects of enjoyment.' ॥ 3-51-3 ॥

न नक्तं न दिवा शेते हा हेति वदती मुहुः ताम अस्वस्थां तदाकारां सख्यस ता जज्ञुर इङ्गितैः ॥ ३-५१-४ ॥
'She no longer lay down by day or night, constantly weeping with cries of 'Oh!' and 'Alas!'' ॥ 3-51-4 ॥

ततॊ विदर्भपतये दमयन्त्याः सखीगणः नयवेदयत न सवस्थां दमयन्तीं नरेश्वर ॥ ३-५१-५ ॥
'Observing her distress and decline, her handmaids conveyed the nature of her illness to the ruler of Vidarbha through subtle hints.' ॥ 3-51-5 ॥
