[वै] सा तु कन्या बहुविधं बरुवन्ती मधुरं वचः अनुनेतुं सहस्रांशुं न शशाक मनस्विनी ॥ ३-२९१-१ ॥
'Vaiśampāyana said: "Although that noble maiden spoke to him in many sweet and gentle ways, she was unable to dissuade the thousand-rayed deity."' ॥ 3-291-1 ॥
english translation
न शशाक यदा बाला परत्याख्यातुं तमॊनुदम भीता शापात ततॊ राजन दध्यौ दीर्घम अथान्तरम ॥ ३-२९१-२ ॥
'And when she could not dissuade the dispeller of darkness, she grew fearful of a curse and, O king, fell into deep thought for a long time.' ॥ 3-291-2 ॥
english translation
अनागसः पितुः शापॊ बराह्मणस्य तथैव च मन्निमित्तः कथं न सयात करुद्धाद अस्माद विभावसॊः ॥ ३-२९१-३ ॥
'How might my guiltless father—and that Brahmana as well—escape the wrathful curse of Surya on my account?' ॥ 3-291-3 ॥
english translation
बालेनापि सता मॊहाद भृशं सापह्नवान्य अपि नात्यासादयितव्यानि तेजांसि च तपांसि च ॥ ३-२९१-४ ॥
'Though energy and asceticism can indeed destroy sin, even the virtuous, if still immature in age, should not recklessly invite such peril.One should never draw too near to great power or intense asceticism, even if unaware.' ॥ 3-291-4 ॥
english translation
साहम अद्य भृशं भीता गृहीता च करे भृशम कथं तव अकार्यं कुर्यां वै परदानं हय आत्मनः सवयम ॥ ३-२९१-५ ॥
'Indeed, I now find myself completely within the grasp of this deity. And yet, how can I commit a sinful act by taking it upon myself to surrender my own person to him?' ॥ 3-291-5 ॥
