The Lord orchestrated the Kurukṣetra war and the Yadu dynasty’s destruction to remove earthly burdens, fulfilling a brāhmaṇa curse. Nārada instructs Vasudeva that pure devotional service purifies the universe, illustrated by Bharata’s rejection of the material world and the Yogendras’ mission to cleanse conditioned beings. Material attachment causes misery, urging abandonment of sensory indulgence and fruitive rituals. Devotion to Viṣṇu is the sole path to liberation, purifying the soul and destroying false ego, surpassing mystic perfections which are hindrances. The Lord is the supreme source. Devotional practices, including chanting, are the supreme means to achieve loving service. Krishna presents three paths for perfection: knowledge, work, and devotion. Human birth is uniquely valuable for spiritual practice. The soul is distinct from the body, and one must reject sense gratification to transcend material existence. Insults and greed cause suffering, while the soul remains unaffected by material dualities. Yoga focuses the mind on the speaker, transcending nature’s modes through devotion. Deity worship purifies the body and mind, rejecting bodily identification. The text prescribes festivals and selfless action for liberation, excluding hypocrites.
