[मार्क] स तु विप्रम अथॊवाच धर्मव्याधॊ युधिष्ठिर यद अहं हय आचरे कर्म घॊरम एतद असंशयम ॥ ३-१९९-१ ॥
'Markandeya continued, "The pious fowler, O Yudhishthira, then spoke to that Brahmana: 'Undoubtedly, my actions are cruel."'' ॥ 3-199-1 ॥
english translation
विधिस तु बलवान बरह्मन दुस्तरं हि पुराकृतम पुराकृतस्य पापस्य कर्म दॊषॊ भवत्य अयम दॊषस्यैतस्य वै बरह्मन विघाते यत्नवान अहम ॥ ३-१९९-२ ॥
'O Brahmana, Destiny is supreme, and it is hard to escape the consequences of past deeds. This is the karmic consequence, the evil that arises from the sins committed in a former life.But, O Brahmana, I am always assiduous in eradicating the evil.' ॥ 3-199-2 ॥
english translation
विधिना विहिते पूर्वं निमित्तं घातकॊ भवेत निमित्तभूता हि वयं कर्मणॊ ऽसय दविजॊत्तम ॥ ३-१९९-३ ॥
'The Deity is the one who takes away life; the executioner merely serves as a secondary agent. Similarly, O virtuous Brahmana, we are but instruments in the consequences of our own karma.' ॥ 3-199-3 ॥
english translation
येषां हतानां मांसानि विक्रीणामॊ वयं दविज तेषाम अपि भवेद धर्म उपभॊगेन भक्षणात देवतातिथिभृत्यानां पितॄणां परतिपूजनात ॥ ३-१९९-४ ॥
'O Brahmana, those whose meat is sold by us, even they, by consuming it, partake in righteousness, through the offering of food to gods, guests, and ancestors, as well as the honoring of the righteous.' ॥ 3-199-4 ॥
english translation
ओषध्यॊ वीरुधश चापि पशवॊ मृगपक्षिणः अन्नाद्य भूता लॊकस्य इत्य अपि शरूयते शरुतिः ॥ ३-१९९-५ ॥
'It is firmly stated that herbs, vegetables, deer, birds, and wild creatures serve as sustenance for all living beings.' ॥ 3-199-5 ॥
