भ्रातुर्जटायुषस्तस्य जनस्थाननिवासिनः । तस्यैव च मम भ्रातुस्सखा दशरथः कथम् ॥ ४-५७-६
- of my brother Jatayu, who was dwelling at Janasthana. How did Dasaratha develop friendship with my brother? ॥ 4-57-6॥

bhrAturjaTAyuSastasya janasthAnanivAsinaH । tasyaiva ca mama bhrAtussakhA dazarathaH katham ॥ 4-57-6
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयस्य रामः प्रियः पुत्रो ज्येष्ठो गुरुजनप्रियः । सूर्यांशुदग्धपक्षत्वान्न शक्नोम्युपसर्पितुम् ॥ ४-५७-७
'I hear that Rama who is the favourite firstborn of Dasaratha has endeared himself to all elders. As my wings are burnt down by the Sun's rays it is not possible for me to move forward. ॥ 4-57-7॥
english translation
yasya rAmaH priyaH putro jyeSTho gurujanapriyaH । sUryAMzudagdhapakSatvAnna zaknomyupasarpitum ॥ 4-57-7
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइच्छेयं पर्वतादस्मादवतर्तु मरिन्दमाः । शोकाद्भ्रष्टस्वरमपि श्रुत्वा ते हरियूथपाः ॥ ४-५७-८
'O tamers of foes, I wish you help me to get down from this mountain'. Even though his voice was choked with grief, the leaders among monkeys on hearing him - ॥ 4-57-8॥

iccheyaM parvatAdasmAdavatartu marindamAH । zokAdbhraSTasvaramapi zrutvA te hariyUthapAH ॥ 4-57-8
hk transliteration by Sanscriptश्रद्दधुर्नैव तद्वाक्यं कर्मणा तस्य शङ्किताः । ते प्रायमुपविष्टास्तु दृष्ट्वा गृध्रं प्लवङ्गमाः ॥ ४-५७-९
- did not trust his words. They suspected his intentions. On seeing the vulture, the monkeys fasting unto death - ॥ 4-57-9॥

zraddadhurnaiva tadvAkyaM karmaNA tasya zaGkitAH । te prAyamupaviSTAstu dRSTvA gRdhraM plavaGgamAH ॥ 4-57-9
hk transliteration by Sanscriptचक्रुर्बुद्धिं तदा रौद्रां सर्वान्नो भक्षयिष्यति । सर्वथा प्रायमासीनान्यदि नो भक्षयिष्यति ॥ ४-५७-१०
- got a terrible thought in their minds that the vulture might eat them. 'Since we wish to die and if he eats us - ॥ 4-57-10॥

cakrurbuddhiM tadA raudrAM sarvAnno bhakSayiSyati । sarvathA prAyamAsInAnyadi no bhakSayiSyati ॥ 4-57-10
