शठो नैकृतिकः क्षुद्रो मिथ्याप्रश्रितमानसः । कथं दशरथेन त्वं जातः पापो महात्मना ॥ ४-१७-४१
'You are treacherous, dishonest, mean, guised with false humility and a sinner to the core. How were you born to that high-souled Dasaratha? ॥ 4-17-41॥
english translation
zaTho naikRtikaH kSudro mithyAprazritamAnasaH । kathaM dazarathena tvaM jAtaH pApo mahAtmanA ॥ 4-17-41
hk transliteration by Sanscriptछिन्नचारित्रकक्ष्येण सतां धर्मातिवर्तिना । त्यक्तधर्माङ्कुशेनाहं निहतो रामहस्तिना ॥ ४-१७-४२
'Breaking through the chains of good character, trespassing the moral code of conduct of the sages, discharging the sharp arrow of righteousness, the elephantine ( arrogant ) Rama killed me. ॥ 4-17-42॥
english translation
chinnacAritrakakSyeNa satAM dharmAtivartinA । tyaktadharmAGkuzenAhaM nihato rAmahastinA ॥ 4-17-42
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअशुभं चाप्ययुक्तं च सतां चैव विगर्हितम् । वक्ष्यसे चेदृशं कृत्वा सद्भिस्सह समागतः ॥ ४-१७-४३
'You have committed an inauspicious, improper act, despised by the virtuous. What will you speak when you are questioned by noble men for committing such an act? ॥ 4-17-43॥
english translation
azubhaM cApyayuktaM ca satAM caiva vigarhitam । vakSyase cedRzaM kRtvA sadbhissaha samAgataH ॥ 4-17-43
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउदासीनेषु योऽस्मासु विक्रमऽस्ते प्रकाशितः । अपकारिषु ते राजन्नहि पश्यामि विक्रमम् ॥ ४-१७-४४
'O king you have exhibited your valour against one who has done you no harm. Why have you not shown such valour on those who have offended you? ॥ 4-17-44॥

udAsIneSu yo'smAsu vikrama'ste prakAzitaH । apakAriSu te rAjannahi pazyAmi vikramam ॥ 4-17-44
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदृश्यमानस्तु युद्ध्येथा मया यदि नृपात्मज । अद्य वैवस्वतं देवं पश्येस्त्वं निहतो मया ॥ ४-१७-४५
'O prince had you fought me face to face you would have seen Vaivasvata, the lord of death ( Yama ) today ( you would have been killed by me ). ॥ 4-17-45॥

dRzyamAnastu yuddhyethA mayA yadi nRpAtmaja । adya vaivasvataM devaM pazyestvaM nihato mayA ॥ 4-17-45
