विन्ध्यस्य तु गिरेः पादे सम्प्रपुष्पितपादपे | उपविश्य महाभागाश्चिन्तामापेदिरे तदा || ४-५३-१६

Then the highsoul monkeys reached the hill adjacent to Vindhya mountain on which trees were in full bloom. They sat there, lost in thought. [4-53-16]

english translation

vindhyasya tu gireH pAde samprapuSpitapAdape | upavizya mahAbhAgAzcintAmApedire tadA || 4-53-16

ततः पुष्पातिभाराग्रान् लताशतसमावृतान् | द्रुमान्वासन्तिकान्दृष्टवा बभूवुर्भयशङ्किताः || ४-५३-१७

sanskrit

Alarmed at the thought (of transgression of time limit), the monkeys kept looking at the tree tops entwined with a hundred creepers heavily loaded with the flowers of spring. [4-53-17]

english translation

tataH puSpAtibhArAgrAn latAzatasamAvRtAn | drumAnvAsantikAndRSTavA babhUvurbhayazaGkitAH || 4-53-17

ते वसन्तमनुप्राप्तं प्रतिबुद्ध्वा परस्परम् | नष्टसन्देशकालार्था निपेतुर्धरणीतले || ४-५३-१८

Having realised (looking at the flowers) that spring has set in and they have exceeded the time limit, they all fell down on the ground. [4-53-18]

te vasantamanuprAptaM pratibuddhvA parasparam | naSTasandezakAlArthA nipeturdharaNItale || 4-53-18

ततस्तान्कपिवृद्धांस्तु शिष्टांश्चैव वनौकसः | वाचा मधुरयाऽभाष्य यथावदनुमान्य च || ४-५३-१९

Coming to a conclusion after due deliberation he (Angada) spoke properly in a sweet voice to the elderly, respectable monkeys, dwellers of the forest. [4-53-19]

tatastAnkapivRddhAMstu ziSTAMzcaiva vanaukasaH | vAcA madhurayA'bhASya yathAvadanumAnya ca || 4-53-19

hk transliteration

स तु सिंहवृषस्कन्धः पीनायतभुजः कपिः | युवराजो महाप्राज्ञः अङ्गदो वाक्यमब्रवीत् || ४-५३-२०

sanskrit

He (Angada), heir apparent, profoundly wise monkey, endowed with sturdy and broad shoulders like those of a lion or a bull spoke these words. [4-53-20]

sa tu siMhavRSaskandhaH pInAyatabhujaH kapiH | yuvarAjo mahAprAjJaH aGgado vAkyamabravIt || 4-53-20
