स तु देशो दुरन्वेषो गुहागहनवान्महान् । निर्जलं निर्जनं शून्यं गहनं रोमहर्षणम् ॥ ४-४८-६
They searched in dense forests, interior locations impassable, desolate and terrific, without water, and people. ॥ 4-48-6॥
english translation
sa tu dezo duranveSo guhAgahanavAnmahAn । nirjalaM nirjanaM zUnyaM gahanaM romaharSaNam ॥ 4-48-6
hk transliteration by Sanscriptत्यक्त्वा तु तं तदा देशं सर्वे वै हरियूथपाः । तादृशान्यप्यरण्यानि विचित्य भृशपीडिताः ॥ ४-४८-७
Having searched all over in the forests and very difficult areas, moving forward leaving that place, then those vanara leaders - ॥ 4-48-7॥

tyaktvA tu taM tadA dezaM sarve vai hariyUthapAH । tAdRzAnyapyaraNyAni vicitya bhRzapIDitAH ॥ 4-48-7
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदेशमन्यं दुराधर्षं विविशु श्चाकुतो भयाः । यत्र वन्ध्यफला वृक्षा विपुष्पाः पर्णवर्जिताः ॥ ४-४८-८
- the fearless, invincible entered another area searching. As they marched forward, they entered a location where there were trees devoid of leaves, flowers and fruits . - ॥ 4-48-8॥

dezamanyaM durAdharSaM vivizu zcAkuto bhayAH । yatra vandhyaphalA vRkSA vipuSpAH parNavarjitAH ॥ 4-48-8
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनिस्तोयास्सरितो यत्र मूलं यत्र सुदुर्लभम् । न सन्ति महिषा यत्र न मृगा न च हस्तिनः ॥ ४-४८-९
- and rivers without water and a place where it was difficult to get roots (for food). There were no buffaloes, no deer, no elephants - ॥ 4-48-9॥

nistoyAssarito yatra mUlaM yatra sudurlabham । na santi mahiSA yatra na mRgA na ca hastinaH ॥ 4-48-9
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशार्दूलाः पक्षिणो वापि ये चान्ये वनगोचराः । न यत्रवृक्षा नौषध्यो न वल्ल्यो नापि वीरुधः ॥ ४-४८-१०
- tigers or even birds and other wild animals. There were no medicinal plants, no vines or creepers spreading on the ground. ॥ 4-48-10॥

zArdUlAH pakSiNo vApi ye cAnye vanagocarAH । na yatravRkSA nauSadhyo na vallyo nApi vIrudhaH ॥ 4-48-10
