तदा मां बुद्धिसम्पन्नो हनूमान्वाक्यमब्रवीत् । इदानीं मे स्मृतं राजन्यथा वाली हरीश्वरः ॥ ४-४६-२१

- then wise Hanuman spoke to me these words 'I remembed that the Vali, king of monkeys . - ॥ 4-46-21॥

english translation

tadA mAM buddhisampanno hanUmAnvAkyamabravIt । idAnIM me smRtaM rAjanyathA vAlI harIzvaraH ॥ 4-46-21

मतङ्गेन तदा शप्तो ह्यस्मिन्नाश्रममण्डले । प्रविशेद्यदि वै वाली मूर्धाऽस्य शतधा भवेत् ॥ ४-४६-२२

- was cursed by sage Matanga. Vali would not enter the site of Matanga's hermitage as his head would break into a hundred pieces if he did'. ॥ 4-46-22॥

english translation

mataGgena tadA zapto hyasminnAzramamaNDale । pravizedyadi vai vAlI mUrdhA'sya zatadhA bhavet ॥ 4-46-22

तत्र वासस्सुखोऽस्माकं निरुद्विग्नो भविष्यति । ततः पर्वतमासाद्य ऋष्यमूकं नृपात्मज ॥ ४-४६-२३

'Therefore we thought it would be safe for us to reside in that place. O prince Rama then I reached mount Rishyamuka . - ॥ 4-46-23॥

tatra vAsassukho'smAkaM nirudvigno bhaviSyati । tataH parvatamAsAdya RSyamUkaM nRpAtmaja ॥ 4-46-23

न विवेश तदा वाली मतङ्गस्य भयात्तदा । एवं मया तदा राजन्प्रत्यक्षमुपलक्षितम् । पृथिवीमण्डलं कृत्स्नं गुहामस्यागतस्ततः ॥ ४-४६-२४

- which Vali did not enter out of fear of the curse of Matanga. O king that way I surveyed the entire earth directly and returned to this cave and lived here.' ॥ 4-46-24॥

na viveza tadA vAlI mataGgasya bhayAttadA । evaM mayA tadA rAjanpratyakSamupalakSitam । pRthivImaNDalaM kRtsnaM guhAmasyAgatastataH ॥ 4-46-24
