पित्रा सम्पूजिताः सर्वे यथावीर्यं यथावयः । आददुः सशरं चापं वेद्धुं पर्षदि मद्धियः ॥ १०-८३-२१ ॥
My father properly honored each king according to his strength and seniority. Then those whose minds were fixed on me took up the bow and arrow and one by one tried to pierce the target in the midst of the assembly. ॥ 10-83-21 ॥

मेरे पिता प्रत्येक राजा का उसकी शक्ति तथा वरिष्ठता के अनुसार यथोचित सम्मान करते थे। तब जिनका मन मुझमें लगा हुआ था, उन्होंने धनुष-बाण उठाया और सभा के बीच में एक-एक करके लक्ष्य को बेधने का प्रयत्न किया। ॥ १०-८३-२१ ॥

आदाय व्यसृजन् केचित्सज्यं कर्तुमनीश्वराः । आकोटि ज्यां समुत्कृष्य पेतुरेकेऽमुना हताः ॥ १०-८३-२२ ॥
Some of them picked up the bow but could not string it, and so they threw it aside in frustration. Some managed to pull the bowstring toward the tip of the bow, only to have the bow spring back and knock them to the ground. ॥ 10-83-22 ॥

उनमें से कुछ ने धनुष उठा लिया, लेकिन प्रत्यंचा नहीं चढ़ा सके, इसलिए निराश होकर उन्होंने उसे एक तरफ फेंक दिया। कुछ लोग धनुष की प्रत्यंचा को धनुष की नोक की ओर खींचने में कामयाब रहे, लेकिन धनुष वापस आ गया और उन्हें जमीन पर गिरा दिया। ॥ १०-८३-२२ ॥

सज्यं कृत्वा परे वीरा मागधाम्बष्ठचेदिपाः । भीमो दुर्योधनः कर्णो नाविदंस्तदवस्थितिम् ॥ १०-८३-२३ ॥
A few heroes — namely Jarāsandha, Śiśupāla, Bhīma, Duryodhana, Karṇa and the King of Ambaṣṭha — succeeded in stringing the bow, but none of them could find the target. ॥ 10-83-23 ॥

कुछ वीर - अर्थात् जरासंध, शिशुपाल, भीम, दुर्योधन, कर्ण और अम्बष्ठ के राजा - धनुष पर प्रत्यंचा चढ़ाने में सफल रहे, लेकिन उनमें से कोई भी लक्ष्य नहीं पा सका। ॥ १०-८३-२३ ॥

मत्स्याभासं जले वीक्ष्य ज्ञात्वा च तदवस्थितिम् । पार्थो यत्तोऽसृजद्बाणं नाच्छिनत्पस्पृशे परम् ॥ १०-८३-२४ ॥
Then Arjuna looked at the reflection of the fish in the water and determined its position. When he carefully shot his arrow at it, however, he did not pierce the target but merely grazed it. ॥ 10-83-24 ॥

तब अर्जुन ने पानी में मछली के प्रतिबिंब को देखा और उसकी स्थिति निर्धारित की। हालाँकि, जब उसने सावधानी से उस पर अपना तीर चलाया, तो उसने लक्ष्य को नहीं भेदा, बल्कि उसे छू लिया। ॥ १०-८३-२४ ॥

राजन्येषु निवृत्तेषु भग्नमानेषु मानिषु । भगवान् धनुरादाय सज्यं कृत्वाथ लीलया ॥ १०-८३-२५ ॥
After all the arrogant kings had given up, their pride broken, the Supreme Personality of Godhead picked up the bow, easily strung it and then fixed His arrow upon it. ॥ 10-83-25 ॥

जब सभी अहंकारी राजाओं ने हार मान ली, उनका घमंड टूट गया, तब भगवान ने धनुष उठाया, आसानी से उस पर प्रत्यंचा चढ़ाई और फिर उस पर अपना बाण चढ़ाया। ॥ १०-८३-२५ ॥
