श्रीशुक उवाच वृष्णीनां प्रवरो मन्त्री कृष्णस्य दयितः सखा । शिष्यो बृहस्पतेः साक्षादुद्धवो बुद्धिसत्तमः ॥ १०-४६-१ ॥
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: The supremely intelligent Uddhava was the best counselor of the Vṛṣṇi dynasty, a beloved friend of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa and a direct disciple of Bṛhaspati. ॥ 10-46-1 ॥
english translation
शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा : अत्यन्त बुद्धिमान उद्धव वृष्णि वंश के सर्वश्रेष्ठ सलाहकार, भगवान् कृष्ण के प्रिय मित्र तथा बृहस्पति के प्रत्यक्ष शिष्य थे। ॥ १०-४६-१ ॥

तमाह भगवान् प्रेष्ठं भक्तमेकान्तिनं क्वचित् । गृहीत्वा पाणिना पाणिं प्रपन्नार्तिहरो हरिः ॥ १०-४६-२ ॥
The Supreme Lord Hari, who relieves the distress of all who surrender to Him, once took the hand of His fully devoted, dearmost friend Uddhava and addressed him as follows. ॥ 10-46-2 ॥

भगवान् हरि ने जो अपने शरणागतों के सारे कष्टों को हरने वाले हैं, एक बार अपने भक्त एवं प्रियतम मित्र उद्धव का हाथ अपने हाथ में लेकर उससे इस प्रकार कहा। ॥ १०-४६-२ ॥

गच्छोद्धव व्रजं सौम्य पित्रोर्नौ प्रीतिमावह । गोपीनां मद्वियोगाधिं मत्सन्देशैर्विमोचय ॥ १०-४६-३ ॥
[Lord Kṛṣṇa said:] Dear gentle Uddhava, go to Vraja and give pleasure to Our parents. And also relieve the gopīs, suffering in separation from Me, by giving them My message. ॥ 10-46-3 ॥
english translation
[भगवान् कृष्ण ने कहा] हे भद्र उद्धव, तुम व्रज जाओ और हमारे माता-पिता को आनन्द प्रदान करो। यही नहीं, मेरा सन्देश देकर उन गोपियों को भी क्लेश-मुक्त करो जो मेरे वियोग के कारण कष्ट पा रही हैं। ॥ १०-४६-३ ॥

ता मन्मनस्का मत्प्राणा मदर्थे त्यक्तदैहिकाः । मामेव दयितं प्रेष्ठमात्मानं मनसा गताः । ये त्यक्तलोकधर्माश्च मदर्थे तान् बिभर्म्यहम् ॥ १०-४६-४ ॥
The minds of those gopīs are always absorbed in Me, and their very lives are ever devoted to Me. For My sake they have abandoned everything related to their bodies, renouncing ordinary happiness in this life, as well as religious duties necessary for such happiness in the next life. I alone am their dearmost beloved and, indeed, their very Self. I personally sustain such devotees, who for My sake give up all worldly duties. ॥ 10-46-4 ॥

उन गोपियों के मन सदैव मुझमें लीन रहते हैं और उनके प्राण सदैव मुझी में अनुरक्त रहते हैं। उन्होंने मेरे लिए ही अपने शरीर से सम्बन्धित सारी वस्तुओं को त्याग दिया है, यहाँ तक इस जीवन के सामान्य सुख के साथ साथ अगले जीवन में सुख-प्राप्ति के लिए जो धार्मिक कृत्य आवश्यक हैं, उन तक का परित्याग कर दिया है। मैं उनका एकमात्र परम प्रियतम हूँ, यहाँ तक कि उनकी आत्मा हूँ। अत: मैं सभी परिस्थितियों में उनका भरण-पोषण करने का दायित्व अपने ऊपर लेता हूँ। ॥ १०-४६-४ ॥

मयि ताः प्रेयसां प्रेष्ठे दूरस्थे गोकुलस्त्रियः । स्मरन्त्योऽङ्ग विमुह्यन्ति विरहौत्कण्ठ्यविह्वलाः ॥ १०-४६-५ ॥
My dear Uddhava, for those women of Gokula I am the most cherished object of love. Thus when they remember Me, who am so far away, they are overwhelmed by the anxiety of separation. ॥ 10-46-5 ॥
english translation
हे उद्धव, गोकुल की उन स्त्रियों के लिए मैं सर्वाधिक स्नेहयोग्य प्रेम-पात्र हूँ। इस तरह जब वे दूर-स्थित मुझको स्मरण करती हैं, तो वे वियोग की उद्विग्नता से विह्वल हो उठती हैं। ॥ १०-४६-५ ॥
