तावन्नन्दादयो गोपा मथुराया व्रजं गताः । विलोक्य पूतनादेहं बभूवुरतिविस्मिताः ।। १०-६-३१ ।।

sanskrit

Meanwhile, all the cowherd men, headed by Nanda Mahārāja, returned from Mathurā, and when they saw on the way the gigantic body of Pūtanā lying dead, they were struck with great wonder. ।। 10-6-31 ।।

english translation

तब तक नन्द महाराज समेत सारे ग्वाले मथुरा से लौट आये और जब उन्होंने रास्ते में पूतना के विशाल काम शरीर को मृत पड़ा देखा तो वे अत्यन्त आश्चर्यचकित हुए। ।। १०-६-३१ ।।

नूनं बतर्षिः सञ्जातो योगेशो वा समास सः । स एव दृष्टो ह्युत्पातो यदाहानकदुन्दुभिः ।। १०-६-३२ ।।

sanskrit

Nanda Mahārāja and the other gopas exclaimed: My dear friends, you must know that Ānakadundubhi, Vasudeva, has become a great saint or a master of mystic power. Otherwise how could he have foreseen this calamity and predicted it to us? ।। 10-6-32 ।।

english translation

नन्द महाराज तथा अन्य ग्वाले चिल्ला पड़े: मित्रो, जान लो कि आनकदुन्दुभि अर्थात् वसुदेव बहुत बड़ा सन्त या योगेश्वर बन चुका है। अन्यथा वह इस उत्पात को पहले से कैसे देख सकता था और हमसे इसकी भविष्य वाणी कैसे कर सकता था? ।। १०-६-३२ ।।

कलेवरं परशुभिश्छित्त्वा तत्ते व्रजौकसः । दूरे क्षिप्त्वावयवशो न्यदहन् काष्ठधिष्टितम् ।। १०-६-३३ ।।

sanskrit

The inhabitants of Vraja cut the gigantic body of Pūtanā into pieces with the help of axes. Then they threw the pieces far away, covered them with wood and burned them to ashes. ।। 10-6-33 ।।

english translation

व्रजवासियों ने पूतना के शरीर को फरसों से खण्ड खण्ड कर डाला। फिर उन खण्डों को दूर फेंक दिया और उन्हें लकड़ी से ढक कर भस्मीभूत कर डाला। ।। १०-६-३३ ।।

दह्यमानस्य देहस्य धूमश्चागुरुसौरभः । उत्थितः कृष्णनिर्भुक्तसपद्याहतपाप्मनः ।। १०-६-३४ ।।

sanskrit

Because of Kṛṣṇa’s having sucked the breast of the Rākṣasī Pūtanā, when Kṛṣṇa killed her she was immediately freed of all material contamination. Her sinful reactions automatically vanished, and therefore when her gigantic body was being burnt, the smoke emanating from her body was fragrant like aguru incense. ।। 10-6-34 ।।

english translation

चूँकि कृष्ण ने उस राक्षसी पूतना का स्तनपान किया था, इसतरह जब कृष्ण ने उसे मारा तो वह तुरन्त समस्त भौतिक कल्मष से मुक्त हो गई। उसके सारे पाप स्वत: ही दूर हो गये अतएव जब उसके विशाल शरीर को जलाया जा रहा था, तो उसके शरीर से निकलने वाला धुँआ अगुरु की सुगन्ध सा महक रहा था। ।। १०-६-३४ ।।

पूतना लोकबालघ्नी राक्षसी रुधिराशना । जिघांसयापि हरये स्तनं दत्त्वाऽऽप सद्गतिम् ।। १०-६-३५ ।।

sanskrit

Pūtanā was always hankering for the blood of human children, and with that desire she came to kill Kṛṣṇa; but because she offered her breast to the Lord, she attained the greatest achievement. ।। 10-6-35 ।।

english translation

पूतना सदा ही मानव शिशुओं के खून की प्यासी रहती थी और इसी अभिलाषा से वह कृष्ण को मारने आई थी। किन्तु कृष्ण को स्तनपान कराने से उसे सर्वोच्च पद प्राप्त हो गया। ।। १०-६-३५ ।।
