पुरुषैर्बहुभिर्गुप्तमर्चितं परमर्द्धिमत् । वार्यमाणो नृभिः कृष्णः प्रसह्य धनुराददे ॥ १०-४२-१६ ॥
That most opulent bow was guarded by a large company of men, who were respectfully worshiping it. Kṛṣṇa pushed His way forward and, despite the guards’ attempts to stop Him, picked it up. ॥ 10-42-16 ॥

उस अत्यन्त ऐश्वर्ययुक्त धनुष की लोगों की विशाल टोली द्वारा निगरानी की जा रही थी और वे लोग उसकी आदर भाव से पूजा कर रहे थे। तो भी कृष्ण आगे बढ़ते गये और रक्षकों के मना करने के बावजूद उन्होंने उस धनुष को उठा लिया। ॥ १०-४२-१६ ॥

करेण वामेन सलीलमुद्धृतं सज्यं च कृत्वा निमिषेण पश्यताम् । नृणां विकृष्य प्रबभञ्ज मध्यतो यथेक्षुदण्डं मदकर्युरुक्रमः ॥ १०-४२-१७ ॥
Easily lifting the bow with His left hand, Lord Urukrama strung it in a fraction of a second as the King’s guards looked on. He then powerfully pulled the string and snapped the bow in half, just as an excited elephant might break a stalk of sugar cane. ॥ 10-42-17 ॥

अपने बाएँ हाथ से उस धनुष को आसानी से उठाकर भगवान् उरुक्रम ने राजा के रक्षकों के देखते देखते एक क्षण से भी कम समय में डोरी चढ़ा दी। तत्पश्चात् उन्होंने बलपूर्वक डोरी खींची और उस धनुष को बीच से तोड़ डाला जिस तरह मतवाला हाथी गन्ने को तोड़ दे। ॥ १०-४२-१७ ॥

धनुषो भज्यमानस्य शब्दः खं रोदसी दिशः । पूरयामास यं श्रुत्वा कंसस्त्रासमुपागमत् ॥ १०-४२-१८ ॥
The sound of the bow’s breaking filled the earth and sky in all directions. Upon hearing it, Kaṁsa was struck with terror. ॥ 10-42-18 ॥

धनुष के टूटने की ध्वनि पृथ्वी तथा आकाश की सारी दिशाओं में भर गई। इसे सुनकर कंस भयभीत हो उठा। ॥ १०-४२-१८ ॥

तद्रक्षिणः सानुचराः कुपिता आततायिनः । ग्रहीतुकामा आवव्रुर्गृह्यतां वध्यतामिति ॥ १०-४२-१९ ॥
The enraged guards then took up their weapons and, wanting to seize Kṛṣṇa and His companions, surrounded them and shouted, “Grab Him! Kill Him!” ॥ 10-42-19 ॥

तब क्रुद्ध रक्षकों ने अपने अपने हथियार उठा लिये और कृष्ण तथा उनके संगियों को पकडऩे की इच्छा से उन्हें घेर लिया और “पकड़ लो, मार डालो” कहकर चिल्लाने लगे। ॥ १०-४२-१९ ॥

अथ तान् दुरभिप्रायान् विलोक्य बलकेशवौ । क्रुद्धौ धन्वन आदाय शकले तांश्च जघ्नतुः ॥ १०-४२-२० ॥
Seeing the guards coming upon Them with evil intent, Balarāma and Keśava took up the two halves of the bow and began striking them down. ॥ 10-42-20 ॥

दुर्भावना से रक्षकों को अपनी ओर आते देखकर बलराम तथा कृष्ण ने धनुष के दोनों खण्डों को अपने हाथों में ले लिया और वे उन सबों को इन्हीं से मारने लगे। ॥ १०-४२-२० ॥
