मार्गा बभूवुः सन्दिग्धास्तृणैश्छन्ना ह्यसंस्कृताः । नाभ्यस्यमानाः श्रुतयो द्विजैः कालाहता इव ।। १०-२०-१६ ।।

sanskrit

During the rainy season the roads, not being cleansed, became covered with grass and debris and were thus difficult to make out. These roads were like religious scriptures that brāhmaṇas no longer study and that thus become corrupted and covered over with the passage of time. ।। 10-20-16 ।।

english translation

वर्षा ऋतु में रास्तों को साफ न करने से वे घास-फूस और कूड़े-करकट से ढक गये और उन्हें पहचान पाना कठिन हो गया। ये रास्ते उन धार्मिक शास्त्रों (श्रुतियों) के तुल्य थे, जो ब्राह्मणों द्वारा अध्ययन न किये जाने से भ्रष्ट हो गये हों और कालक्रम से आच्छादित हो चुके हों। ।। १०-२०-१६ ।।

लोकबन्धुषु मेघेषु विद्युतश्चलसौहृदाः । स्थैर्यं न चक्रुः कामिन्यः पुरुषेषु गुणिष्विव ।। १०-२०-१७ ।।

sanskrit

Though the clouds are the well-wishing friends of all living beings, the lightning, fickle in its affinities, moved from one group of clouds to another, like lusty women unfaithful even to virtuous men. ।। 10-20-17 ।।

english translation

यद्यपि बादल सारे जीवों के शुभैषी मित्र होते हैं लेकिन दुर्बलमना चंचल बिजली बादलों के एक समूह से दूसरे समूह में इस तरह गति करने लगी मानो गुणवान पुरुषों के प्रति भी विश्वासघात करनेवाली कामुक स्त्रियाँ हों। ।। १०-२०-१७ ।।

धनुर्वियति माहेन्द्रं निर्गुणं च गुणिन्यभात् । व्यक्ते गुणव्यतिकरेऽगुणवान् पुरुषो यथा ।। १०-२०-१८ ।।

sanskrit

When the curved bow of Indra [the rainbow] appeared in the sky, which had the quality of thundering sound, it was unlike ordinary bows because it did not rest upon a string. Similarly, when the Supreme Lord appears in this world, which is the interaction of the material qualities, He is unlike ordinary persons because He remains free from all material qualities and independent of all material conditions. ।। 10-20-18 ।।

english translation

जब उस आकाश में इन्द्रधनुष प्रकट हुआ जिसमें गर्जना करने का गुण था, तो वह सामान्य धनुषों से भिन्न था क्योंकि वह प्रत्यञ्चा पर टिका हुआ नहीं था। इसी प्रकार जब भगवान् इस जगत में, जो कि भौतिक गुणों की पारस्परिक क्रिया स्वरूप है, प्रकट होते हैं, तो वे सामान्य पुरुषों से भिन्न होते हैं क्योंकि वे समस्त भौतिक गुणों से मुक्त तथा समस्त भौतिक दशाओं से स्वतंत्र होते हैं। ।। १०-२०-१८ ।।

न रराजोडुपश्छन्नः स्वज्योत्स्ना राजितैर्घनैः । अहं मत्या भासितया स्वभासा पुरुषो यथा ।। १०-२०-१९ ।।

sanskrit

During the rainy season the moon was prevented from appearing directly by the covering of the clouds, which were themselves illumined by the moon’s rays. Similarly, the living being in material existence is prevented from appearing directly by the covering of the false ego, which is itself illumined by the consciousness of the pure soul. ।। 10-20-19 ।।

english translation

वर्षा ऋतु में बादलों से ढके रहने के कारण चन्द्रमा के प्रकट होने में व्यवधान पड़ता था और यही बादल चन्द्रमा की किरणों से प्रकाशित होते थे। इसी प्रकार इस भौतिक जगत में मिथ्या अहंकार के आवरण से जीव प्रत्यक्ष प्रकट नहीं हो पाता जबकि वह स्वयं शुद्ध आत्मा की चेतना से प्रकाशित होता है। ।। १०-२०-१९ ।।

मेघागमोत्सवा हृष्टाः प्रत्यनन्दञ्छिखण्डिनः । गृहेषु तप्ता निर्विण्णा यथाच्युतजनागमे ।। १०-२०-२० ।।

The peacocks became festive and cried out a joyful greeting when they saw the clouds arrive, just as people distressed in household life feel pleasure when the pure devotees of the infallible Supreme Lord visit them. ।। 10-20-20 ।।

english translation

जब मोरों ने बादलों को आते देखा तो वे उल्लासित हो गये और हर्षयुक्त अभिनन्दन में टेरने लगे जिस तरह गृहस्थ जीवन में दुखित लोग अच्युत भगवान् के शुद्ध भक्तों के आगमन पर हर्षित हो जाते हैं। ।। १०-२०-२० ।।
