इति व्यवस्याजगरं बृहद्वपुः स योजनायाममहाद्रिपीवरम् । धृत्वाद्भुतं व्यात्तगुहाननं तदा पथि व्यशेत ग्रसनाशया खलः ॥ १०-१२-१६ ॥
After thus deciding, that crooked Aghāsura assumed the form of a huge python, as thick as a big mountain and as long as eight miles. Having assumed this wonderful python’s body, he spread his mouth like a big cave in the mountains and lay down on the road, expecting to swallow Kṛṣṇa and His associates the cowherd boys. ॥ 10-12-16 ॥
english translation
यह निश्चय करने के बाद उस दुष्ट अघासुर ने एक विशाल अजगर का रूप धारण कर लिया, जो विशाल पर्वत की तरह मोटा तथा आठ मील तक लम्बा था। इस तरह अद्भुत अजगर का शरीर धारण करने के बाद उसने अपना मुँह पर्वत की एक बड़ी गुफा के तुल्य फैला दिया और रास्ते में कृष्ण तथा उनके संगी ग्वालबालों को निगल जाने की आशा से लेट गया। ॥ १०-१२-१६ ॥

iti vyavasyAjagaraM bRhadvapuH sa yojanAyAmamahAdripIvaram । dhRtvAdbhutaM vyAttaguhAnanaM tadA pathi vyazeta grasanAzayA khalaH ॥ 10-12-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptधराधरोष्ठो जलदोत्तरोष्ठो दर्याननान्तो गिरिशृङ्गदंष्ट्रः । ध्वान्तान्तरास्यो वितताध्वजिह्वः परुषानिलश्वासदवेक्षणोष्णः ॥ १०-१२-१७ ॥
His lower lip rested on the surface of the earth, and his upper lip was touching the clouds in the sky. The borders of his mouth resembled the sides of a big cave in a mountain, and the middle of his mouth was as dark as possible. His tongue resembled a broad traffic-way, his breath was like a warm wind, and his eyes blazed like fire. ॥ 10-12-17 ॥

उसका निचला होठ पृथ्वी पर था और ऊपरी होठ आकाश के बादलों को छू रहा था। उसके मुख की बगलें पर्वत की विशाल गुफाओं के समान थीं और मुख का मध्य भाग अत्यन्त अंधकारमय था। उसकी जीभ चौ मार्ग के तुल्य थी, उसकी श्वास गर्म हवा जैसी थी और उसकी आँखें आग की लपटों जैसी जल रही थीं। ॥ १०-१२-१७ ॥

hk transliteration by Sanscriptदृष्ट्वा तं तादृशं सर्वे मत्वा वृन्दावनश्रियम् । व्यात्ताजगरतुण्डेन ह्युत्प्रेक्षन्ते स्म लीलया ॥ १०-१२-१८ ॥
Upon seeing this demon’s wonderful form, which resembled a great python, the boys thought that it must be a beautiful scenic spot of Vṛndāvana. Thereafter, they imagined it to be similar to the mouth of a great python. In other words, the boys, unafraid, thought that it was a statue made in the shape of a great python for the enjoyment of their pastimes. ॥ 10-12-18 ॥

इस असुर का अद्भुत रूप विशाल अजगर के समान था। इसे देख कर बालकों ने सोचा कि हो न हो यह वृन्दावन का कोई रम्य स्थल है। तत्पश्चात् उन्होंने कल्पना की कि यह विशाल अजगर के मुख के समान है। दूसरे शब्दों में, निर्भीक बालकों ने सोचा कि विशाल अजगर रूपी यह मूर्ति उनके क्रीड़ा-आनन्द के लिए बनाई गई है। ॥ १०-१२-१८ ॥

dRSTvA taM tAdRzaM sarve matvA vRndAvanazriyam । vyAttAjagaratuNDena hyutprekSante sma lIlayA ॥ 10-12-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअहो मित्राणि गदत सत्त्वकूटं पुरःस्थितम् । अस्मत्सङ्ग्रसनव्यात्तव्यालतुण्डायते न वा ॥ १०-१२-१९ ॥
The boys said: Dear friends, is this creature dead, or is it actually a living python with its mouth spread wide just to swallow us all? Kindly clear up this doubt. ॥ 10-12-19 ॥
english translation
बालकों ने कहा : मित्रो, क्या यह मृत है या सचमुच यह जीवित अजगर है, जिसने हम सबों को निगलने के लिए अपना मुँह फैला रखा है? इस सन्देह को दूर करो न! ॥ १०-१२-१९ ॥

hk transliteration by Sanscriptसत्यमर्ककरारक्तमुत्तराहनुवद्घनम् । अधराहनुवद्रोधस्तत्प्रतिच्छाययारुणम् ॥ १०-१२-२० ॥
Thereafter they decided: Dear friends, this is certainly an animal sitting here to swallow us all. Its upper lip resembles a cloud reddened by the sunshine, and its lower lip resembles the reddish shadows of a cloud. ॥ 10-12-20 ॥

तत्पश्चात् उन्होंने निश्चय किया : मित्रो, यह निश्चित रूप से हम सबों को निगल जाने के लिए यहाँ बैठा हुआ कोई पशु है। इसका ऊपरी होंठ सूर्य की धूप से रक्तिम हुए बादल की तरह है और निचला होंठ बादल की लाल-लाल परछाईं-सा लगता है। ॥ १०-१२-२० ॥
