इत्थं सतां ब्रह्मसुखानुभूत्या दास्यं गतानां परदैवतेन । मायाश्रितानां नरदारकेण साकं विजह्रुः कृतपुण्यपुञ्जाः ।। १०-१२-११ ।।

In this way, all the cowherd boys used to play with Kṛṣṇa, who is the source of the Brahman effulgence for jñānīs desiring to merge into that effulgence, who is the Supreme Personality of Godhead for devotees who have accepted eternal servitorship, and who for ordinary persons is but another ordinary child. The cowherd boys, having accumulated the results of pious activities for many lives, were able to associate in this way with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. How can one explain their great fortune? ।। 10-12-11 ।।

english translation

इस तरह सारे बालक उन कृष्ण के साथ खेला करते जो ब्रह्मज्योति में लीन होने के इच्छुक ज्ञानियों के लिए उसके उद्गम हैं और उन भक्तों के लिए भगवान् हैं जिन्होंने नित्यदासता स्वीकार कर रखी है किन्तु सामान्य व्यक्तियों के लिए वे ही एक सामान्य बालक हैं। ग्वालबालों ने अनेक जन्मों के पुण्यकर्मों का फल संचित कर रखा था फलत: वे इस तरह भगवान् के साथ रह रहे थे। भला उनके इस महाभाग्य का वर्णन कौन कर सकता है? ।। १०-१२-११ ।।

यत्पादपांसुर्बहुजन्मकृच्छ्रतो धृतात्मभिर्योगिभिरप्यलभ्यः । स एव यद्दृग्विषयः स्वयं स्थितः किं वर्ण्यते दिष्टमतो व्रजौकसाम् ।। १०-१२-१२ ।।

Yogīs may undergo severe austerities and penances for many births by practicing yama, niyama, āsana and prāṇāyāma, none of which are easily performed. Yet in due course of time, when these yogīs attain the perfection of controlling the mind, they will still be unable to taste even a particle of dust from the lotus feet of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. What then can we describe about the great fortune of the inhabitants of Vrajabhūmi, Vṛndāvana, with whom the Supreme Personality of Godhead personally lived and who saw the Lord face to face? ।। 10-12-12 ।।

english translation

भले ही योगी अनेक जन्मों तक यम, नियम, आसन तथा प्राणायाम द्वारा जिनमें से कोई भी सरलता से नहीं किया जा सकता है, कठोर से कठोर तपस्या करें फिर भी समय आने पर जब इन योगियों को मन पर नियंत्रण करने की सिद्धि प्राप्त हो जाती है, तो भी वे भगवान् के चरणकमलों की धूल के एक कण तक का आस्वाद नहीं कर सकते। तो भला व्रजभूमि वृन्दावन के निवासियों के महाभाग्य के विषय में क्या कहा जाय जिनके साथ साथ साक्षात् भगवान् रहे और जिन्होंने उनका प्रत्यक्ष दर्शन किया? ।। १०-१२-१२ ।।

अथाघनामाभ्यपतन्महासुरस्तेषां सुखक्रीडनवीक्षणाक्षमः । नित्यं यदन्तर्निजजीवितेप्सुभिः पीतामृतैरप्यमरैः प्रतीक्ष्यते ।। १०-१२-१३ ।।

My dear King Parīkṣit, thereafter there appeared a great demon named Aghāsura, whose death was being awaited even by the demigods. The demigods drank nectar every day, but still they feared this great demon and awaited his death. This demon could not tolerate the transcendental pleasure being enjoyed in the forest by the cowherd boys. ।। 10-12-13 ।।

english translation

हे राजा परीक्षित, तत्पश्चात् वहाँ पर एक विशाल असुर प्रकट हुआ जिसका नाम अघासुर था और देवता तक जिसकी मृत्यु की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे थे। यद्यपि देवता प्रतिदिन अमृत-पान करते थे फिर भी वे इस महान् असुर से डरते थे और उसकी मृत्यु की प्रतीक्षा में थे। यह असुर जंगल में ग्वालबालों द्वारा मनाये जा रहे दिव्य आनन्द को सहन नहीं कर सका। ।। १०-१२-१३ ।।

दृष्ट्वार्भकान् कृष्णमुखानघासुरः कंसानुशिष्टः स बकीबकानुजः । अयं तु मे सोदरनाशकृत्तयोर्द्वयोर्ममैनं सबलं हनिष्ये ।। १०-१२-१४ ।।

Aghāsura, who had been sent by Kaṁsa, was the younger brother of Pūtanā and Bakāsura. Therefore when he came and saw Kṛṣṇa at the head of all the cowherd boys, he thought, “This Kṛṣṇa has killed my sister and brother, Pūtanā and Bakāsura. Therefore, in order to please them both, I shall kill this Kṛṣṇa, along with His assistants, the other cowherd boys.” ।। 10-12-14 ।।

english translation

कंस द्वारा भेजा गया अघासुर पूतना तथा बकासुर का छोटा भाई था। अतएव जब वह आया और उसने देखा कि कृष्ण सारे ग्वालबालों का मुखिया है, तो उसने सोचा, “इस कृष्ण ने मेरी बहन पूतना तथा मेरे भाई बकासुर का वध किया है। अतएव इन दोनों को तुष्ट करने के लिए मैं इस कृष्ण को इसके सहायक अन्य ग्वालबालों समेत मार डालूँगा।” ।। १०-१२-१४ ।।

एते यदा मत्सुहृदोस्तिलापाः कृतास्तदा नष्टसमा व्रजौकसः । प्राणे गते वर्ष्मसु का नु चिन्ता प्रजासवः प्राणभृतो हि ये ते ।। १०-१२-१५ ।।

Aghāsura thought: If somehow or other I can make Kṛṣṇa and His associates serve as the last offering of sesame and water for the departed souls of my brother and sister, then the inhabitants of Vrajabhūmi, for whom these boys are the life and soul, will automatically die. If there is no life, there is no need for the body; consequently, when their sons are dead, naturally all the inhabitants of Vraja will die. ।। 10-12-15 ।।

english translation

अघासुर ने सोचा: यदि मैं किसी तरह कृष्ण तथा उनके संगियों को अपने भाई तथा बहिन की दिवंगत आत्माओं के लिए तिल तथा जल की अन्तिम भेंट बना सकूँ तो व्रजभूमि के सारे वासी, जिनके लिए ये बालक प्राणों के तुल्य हैं, स्वयमेव मर जायेंगे। यदि प्राण नहीं रहेंगे तो फिर शरीर की क्या आवश्यकता? फलस्वरूप अपने अपने पुत्रों के मरने पर व्रज के सारे वासी स्वत: मर जायेंगे। ।। १०-१२-१५ ।।
