अथ काल उपावृत्ते देवकी सर्वदेवता । पुत्रान् प्रसुषुवे चाष्टौ कन्यां चैवानुवत्सरम् ॥ १०-१-५६ ॥
Each year thereafter, in due course of time, Devakī, the mother of God and all the demigods, gave birth to a child. Thus she bore eight sons, one after another, and a daughter named Subhadrā. ॥ 10-1-56 ॥

तत्पश्चात् प्रति-वर्ष समय आने पर ईश्वर तथा अन्य देवताओं की माता देवकी ने एक शिशु को जन्म दिया। इस तरह एक के बाद एक उनके आठ पुत्र तथा सुभद्रा नामक एक कन्या उत्पन्न हुई। ॥ १०-१-५६ ॥

hk transliteration by Sanscriptकीर्तिमन्तं प्रथमजं कंसायानकदुन्दुभिः । अर्पयामास कृच्छ्रेण सोऽनृतादतिविह्वलः ॥ १०-१-५७ ॥
Vasudeva was very much disturbed by fear of becoming a liar by breaking his promise. Thus with great pain he delivered his first-born son, named Kīrtimān, into the hands of Kaṁsa. ॥ 10-1-57 ॥

वसुदेव अत्यधिक विह्वल थे कि कहीं उनका वचन भंग हुआ तो वे झूठे साबित होंगे। इस तरह उन्होंने बड़ी ही वेदना के साथ अपने प्रथम पुत्र कीर्तिमान को कंस के हाथों में सौंप दिया। ॥ १०-१-५७ ॥

kIrtimantaM prathamajaM kaMsAyAnakadundubhiH । arpayAmAsa kRcchreNa so'nRtAdativihvalaH ॥ 10-1-57 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकिं दुःसहं नु साधूनां विदुषां किमपेक्षितम् । किमकार्यं कदर्याणां दुस्त्यजं किं धृतात्मनाम् ॥ १०-१-५८ ॥
What is painful for saintly persons who strictly adhere to the truth? How could there not be independence for pure devotees who know the Supreme Lord as the substance? What deeds are forbidden for persons of the lowest character? And what cannot be given up for the sake of Lord Kṛṣṇa by those who have fully surrendered at His lotus feet? ॥ 10-1-58 ॥
english translation
वे साधु पुरुष जो सत्य पर अटल रहते हैं, उनके लिए क्या पीड़ादायक है? उन शुद्ध भक्तों के लिए जो भगवान् को तत्त्व के रूप में जानते हैं, भला स्वतंत्रता क्यों नहीं होती? निम्नचरित्र वाले पुरुषों के लिए कौन से कार्य वर्जित हैं? जिन्होंने भगवान् कृष्ण के चरणकमलों पर अपने को पूरी तरह समर्पित कर दिया है वे कृष्ण के लिए भला कौन सी वस्तु नहीं त्याग सकते? ॥ १०-१-५८ ॥

kiM duHsahaM nu sAdhUnAM viduSAM kimapekSitam । kimakAryaM kadaryANAM dustyajaM kiM dhRtAtmanAm ॥ 10-1-58 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदृष्ट्वा समत्वं तच्छौरेः सत्ये चैव व्यवस्थितिम् । कंसस्तुष्टमना राजन् प्रहसन्निदमब्रवीत् ॥ १०-१-५९ ॥
My dear King Parīkṣit, when Kaṁsa saw that Vasudeva, being situated in truthfulness, was completely equipoised in giving him the child, he was very happy. Therefore, with a smiling face, he spoke as follows. ॥ 10-1-59 ॥

हे राजा परीक्षित, जब कंस ने देखा कि वसुदेव सत्य में स्थिर रहते हुए अपनी सन्तान उसे सौंपने में समभाव बने रहे, तो वह अत्यधिक प्रसन्न हुआ और उसने हँसते हुए यह कहा। ॥ १०-१-५९ ॥

dRSTvA samatvaM tacchaureH satye caiva vyavasthitim । kaMsastuSTamanA rAjan prahasannidamabravIt ॥ 10-1-59 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रतियातु कुमारोऽयं न ह्यस्मादस्ति मे भयम् । अष्टमाद्युवयोर्गर्भान्मृत्युर्मे विहितः किल ॥ १०-१-६० ॥
O Vasudeva, you may take back your child and go home. I have no fear of your first child. It is the eighth child of you and Devakī I am concerned with because that is the child by whom I am destined to be killed. ॥ 10-1-60 ॥

हे वसुदेव, तुम अपने बच्चे को वापस ले सकते हो और घर जा सकते हो। मुझे तो तुम्हारी और देवकी की आठवीं सन्तान से चिन्तित हूँ, जिसके हाथों मेरी मृत्यु लिखी है। ॥ १०-१-६० ॥
