भस्मना चावृतं सर्वं सम्मूढमिव तद्बलम् । वसिष्ठ ऋषयचान्ये राजा च ससुतस्तदा ॥ १-७४-१६
The entire army was covered with ashes, as if they fainted. At that time Vasishtha and other sages, the king ( Dasharatha ) and his sons . - ॥ 1-74-16॥
english translation
bhasmanA cAvRtaM sarvaM sammUDhamiva tadbalam । vasiSTha RSayacAnye rAjA ca sasutastadA ॥ 1-74-16
hk transliteration by Sanscriptससंज्ञा इव तत्रासन् सर्वमन्यद्विचेतनम् । तस्मिंस्तमसि घोरे तु भस्मच्छन्नेव सा चमूः ॥ १-७४-१७
- held their senses under control. All others lost their consciousness. In that dreadful darkness while the army looked as if covered with ashes. ॥ 1-74-17॥
english translation
sasaMjJA iva tatrAsan sarvamanyadvicetanam । tasmiMstamasi ghore tu bhasmacchanneva sA camUH ॥ 1-74-17
hk transliteration by Sanscriptददर्श भीमसंकाशं जटामण्डलधारिणम् । भार्गवं जामदग्न्यं तं राजा राजविमर्दनम् ॥ १-७४-१८
Then he ( king Dasaratha ) encountered the repressor of kings, descendant of Bhrigu and son of Jamadagni ( Parashuram ji ), looking dreadful, with a terrible crown of matted hair. ॥ 1-74-18॥

dadarza bhImasaMkAzaM jaTAmaNDaladhAriNam । bhArgavaM jAmadagnyaM taM rAjA rAjavimardanam ॥ 1-74-18
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकैलासमिव दुर्धर्षं कालाग्निमिव दुःसहम् । ज्वलंतमिव तेजोभिः दुर्निरीक्ष्यं पृथग्जनैः ॥ १-७४-१९
He ( Parashuram ) was seemed inaccessible like Kailasha mountain and unendurable like the fire at the time of dissolution, irradiant with his own radiance, hence imperceivable for commoners - ॥ 1-74-19॥

kailAsamiva durdharSaM kAlAgnimiva duHsaham । jvalaMtamiva tejobhiH durnirIkSyaM pRthagjanaiH ॥ 1-74-19
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस्कन्धे चासज्य परशुं धनुर्विद्युद्गणोपमम् । प्रगृह्य शरमुग्रं च त्रिपुरघ्नं यथा शिवम् ॥ १-७४-२०
he clinched an axe ( on his right shoulder ) and clasped a bow ( in his left hand ), that in simile was like a congeries of electroluminescence, and handling an arrow ( which was as if ready to electrocute ), he looked like Siva at the time of slaying of Tripura. ॥ 1-74-20॥

skandhe cAsajya parazuM dhanurvidyudgaNopamam । pragRhya zaramugraM ca tripuraghnaM yathA zivam ॥ 1-74-20
