कृतोद्वाहे गते तस्मिन् ब्रह्मदत्ते च राघव | अपुत्रः पुत्रलाभाय पौत्रीमिष्टिमकल्पयत् || १-३४-१
Oh ! son of Raghu's dynasty (Rama) Brahmadatta got married and left for his kingdom. Now a Vedic-ritual called putrakaamesthi was performed by king Kusanabha in order to beget a son. [1-34-1]
During the performance of the ritual, supremely generous Kusha, the brainchild ( Maanasputra ) of Brahma and the father of Kushanaabha, spoke to the king Kushanaabha. [1-34-2]
पुत्र ते सदृशः पुत्रो भविष्यति सुधार्मिकः | गाधिं प्राप्स्यसि तेन त्वं कीर्तिं लोके च शाश्वतीम् || १-३४-३
"Oh ! son, a highly virtuous son named Gadhi, similar to you will be born. Because of him you will obtain everlasting fame throught out this world". [1-34-3]
