तस्यां गंगेयमभवज्ज्येष्ठा हिमवतः सुता । उमा नाम द्वितीयाभूत्कन्या तस्यैव राघव ॥ १-३५-१६
This Ganga had emerged as an elder daughter to Himavan through Mena, oh ! Raghava, and that way a girl renowned by the name Uma had become a second daughter to him. ॥ 1-35-16॥
english translation
tasyAM gaMgeyamabhavajjyeSThA himavataH sutA । umA nAma dvitIyAbhUtkanyA tasyaiva rAghava ॥ 1-35-16
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथ ज्येष्ठां सुराः सर्वे देवकार्यचिकीर्षया । शैलेन्द्रं वरयामासुर्गंगां त्रिपथगां नदीम् ॥ १-३५-१७
"Later, all of the divinities intending to fulfil a divine purpose sought the lordly mountain Himavan to spare Ganga, who is scheduled to become a tri-way-cruising river. ॥ 1-35-17॥
english translation
atha jyeSThAM surAH sarve devakAryacikIrSayA । zailendraM varayAmAsurgaMgAM tripathagAM nadIm ॥ 1-35-17
hk transliteration by Sanscriptददौ धर्मेण हिमवांस्तनयां लोकपावनीम् । स्वच्छंदपथगां गंगां त्रैलोक्यहितकाम्यया ॥ १-३५-१८
In order to do good to the three worlds Himavan, rooted in dharma gifted his eldest daughter Ganga who sanctifies the whole world by flowing at her free will. ॥ 1-35-18॥
english translation
dadau dharmeNa himavAMstanayAM lokapAvanIm । svacchaMdapathagAM gaMgAM trailokyahitakAmyayA ॥ 1-35-18
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रतिगृह्य त्रिलोकार्थं त्रिलोकहितकांक्षिणः । गंगामादाय तेऽगच्छन् कृतार्थेनान्तरात्मना ॥ १-३५-१९
The devatas having received Ganga committed to the welfare of the three worlds went back to their abodes with a sense of fulfilment in their mind. ॥ 1-35-19॥
english translation
pratigRhya trilokArthaM trilokahitakAMkSiNaH । gaMgAmAdAya te'gacchan kRtArthenAntarAtmanA ॥ 1-35-19
hk transliteration by Sanscriptया चान्या शैलदुहिता कन्यासीद्रघुनंदन । उग्रं सा व्रतमास्थाय तपस्तेपे तपोधना ॥ १-३५-२०
Oh ! Raghu's descendent, the other daughter of Himavanta, unmarried girl namely Uma, who performed a rigorous sacrament taking hold of a supreme devoutness as her ascesis itself was her wealth. ॥ 1-35-20॥

yA cAnyA zailaduhitA kanyAsIdraghunaMdana । ugraM sA vratamAsthAya tapastepe tapodhanA ॥ 1-35-20
