ततश्चटचटाशब्दो वज्रनिष्पेषसन्निभः । गदयोः क्षिप्तयो राजन् दन्तयोरिव दन्तिनोः ।। १०-७२-३६ ।।

sanskrit

When Jarāsandha’s and Bhīmasena’s clubs loudly collided, O King, the sound was like the impact of the big tusks of two fighting elephants, or the crash of a thunderbolt in a flashing electrical storm. ।। 10-72-36 ।।

english translation

जब जरासंध और भीमसेन की गदाएं जोर-जोर से टकराती थीं, तो हे राजन, उसकी आवाज दो लड़ते हुए हाथियों के बड़े दांतों के टकराने या चमकते बिजली के तूफान में वज्र के गिरने जैसी होती थी। ।। १०-७२-३६ ।।

ते वै गदे भुजजवेन निपात्यमाने अन्योन्यतोंऽसकटिपादकरोरुजत्रून् । चूर्णीबभूवतुरुपेत्य यथार्कशाखे संयुध्यतोर्द्विरदयोरिव दीप्तमन्व्योः ।। १०-७२-३७ ।।

They swung their clubs at each other with such speed and force that as the clubs struck their shoulders, hips, feet, hands, thighs and collarbones, the weapons were crushed and broken like branches of arka trees with which two enraged elephants furiously attack each other. ।। 10-72-37 ।।

english translation

उन्होंने इतनी तेजी और ताकत से अपनी लाठें एक-दूसरे पर घुमाईं कि जैसे ही लाठियां उनके कंधों, कूल्हों, पैरों, हाथों, जांघों और हँसली पर लगीं, हथियार अर्का पेड़ की शाखाओं की तरह कुचल गए और टूट गए, जिससे दो क्रोधित हाथी एक-दूसरे पर उग्र रूप से हमला करते हैं। ।। १०-७२-३७ ।।

Their clubs thus ruined, those great heroes among men angrily pummeled each other with their iron-hard fists. As they slapped each other, the sound resembled the crash of elephants colliding or harsh thunderclaps. ।। 10-72-38 ।।

english translation

इस प्रकार उनकी गदाएँ नष्ट हो गईं, उन महान वीरों ने क्रोधपूर्वक एक-दूसरे को अपने लौह-कठोर मुक्कों से कुचल डाला। जैसे ही वे एक-दूसरे को थप्पड़ मारते थे, ध्वनि हाथियों के टकराने या तेज़ गड़गड़ाहट की आवाज़ जैसी होती थी। ।। १०-७२-३८ ।।

As they thus fought, this contest between opponents of equal training, strength and stamina reached no conclusion. And so they kept on fighting, O King, without any letup. ।। 10-72-39 ।।

english translation

चूँकि वे इस प्रकार लड़े, समान प्रशिक्षण, शक्ति और सहनशक्ति वाले विरोधियों के बीच यह प्रतियोगिता किसी निष्कर्ष पर नहीं पहुँची। और इसलिए, हे राजा, वे बिना किसी रुकावट के लड़ते रहे। ।। १०-७२-३९ ।।

"Thus, O King, as those two (Jarāsandha and Bhima) engaged in battle for twenty-seven days, they passed their nights there, surrounded by well-wishing associates." ।। 10-72-40 ।।

"इस प्रकार, हे राजा, जब वे दोनों (जरासंध और भीम) सत्ताईस दिनों तक युद्ध में लगे रहे, तो उन्होंने शुभचिंतक सहयोगियों से घिरे हुए, वहीं अपनी रातें बिताईं।" ।। १०-७२-४० ।।
