कृष्णः परिजनं प्राह भगवान् देवकीसुतः । ब्रह्मण्यदेवो धर्मात्मा राजन्याननुशिक्षयन् ।। १०-६४-३१ ।।

sanskrit

The Supreme Personality of Godhead — Lord Kṛṣṇa, the son of Devakī — who is especially devoted to the brāhmaṇas and who embodies the essence of religion, then spoke to His personal associates and thus instructed the royal class in general. ।। 10-64-31 ।।

english translation

भगवान के सर्वोच्च व्यक्तित्व - भगवान कृष्ण, देवकी के पुत्र - जो विशेष रूप से ब्राह्मणों के प्रति समर्पित हैं और जो धर्म के सार का प्रतीक हैं, फिर उन्होंने अपने निजी सहयोगियों से बात की और इस प्रकार सामान्य रूप से शाही वर्ग को निर्देश दिया। ।। १०-६४-३१ ।।

दुर्जरं बत ब्रह्मस्वं भुक्तमग्नेर्मनागपि । तेजीयसोऽपि किमुत राज्ञामीश्वरमानिनाम् ।। १०-६४-३२ ।।

sanskrit

[Lord Kṛṣṇa said:] How indigestible is the property of a brāhmaṇa, even when enjoyed just slightly and by one more potent than fire! What then to speak of kings who try to enjoy it, presuming themselves lords. ।। 10-64-32 ।।

english translation

[भगवान कृष्ण ने कहा:] ब्राह्मण की संपत्ति कितनी अपचनीय है, भले ही उसका थोड़ा सा और अग्नि से भी अधिक शक्तिशाली व्यक्ति द्वारा उपभोग किया गया हो! फिर उन राजाओं के बारे में क्या कहा जाए जो स्वयं को स्वामी मानकर इसका आनंद लेने का प्रयास करते हैं। ।। १०-६४-३२ ।।

नाहं हालाहलं मन्ये विषं यस्य प्रतिक्रिया । ब्रह्मस्वं हि विषं प्रोक्तं नास्य प्रतिविधिर्भुवि ।। १०-६४-३३ ।।

sanskrit

I do not consider hālāhala to be real poison, because it has an antidote. But a brāhmaṇa’s property, when stolen, can truly be called poison, for it has no antidote in this world. ।। 10-64-33 ।।

english translation

मैं हलाहल को असली जहर नहीं मानता, क्योंकि इसमें मारक औषधि है। लेकिन ब्राह्मण की संपत्ति चोरी होने पर वास्तव में जहर कही जा सकती है, क्योंकि इस दुनिया में इसका कोई इलाज नहीं है। ।। १०-६४-३३ ।।

हिनस्ति विषमत्तारं वह्निरद्भिः प्रशाम्यति । कुलं समूलं दहति ब्रह्मस्वारणिपावकः ।। १०-६४-३४ ।।

sanskrit

Poison kills only the person who ingests it, and an ordinary fire may be extinguished with water. But the fire generated from the kindling wood of a brāhmaṇa’s property burns the thief’s entire family down to the root. ।। 10-64-34 ।।

english translation

ज़हर केवल उसी व्यक्ति को मारता है जो इसे खाता है, और एक साधारण आग को पानी से बुझाया जा सकता है। लेकिन एक ब्राह्मण की संपत्ति की जलती हुई लकड़ी से उत्पन्न आग चोर के पूरे परिवार को जड़ तक जला देती है। ।। १०-६४-३४ ।।

hinasti viSamattAraM vahniradbhiH prazAmyati | kulaM samUlaM dahati brahmasvAraNipAvakaH || 10-64-34 ||

ब्रह्मस्वं दुरनुज्ञातं भुक्तं हन्ति त्रिपूरुषम् । प्रसह्य तु बलाद्भुक्तं दश पूर्वान् दशापरान् ।। १०-६४-३५ ।।

sanskrit

If a person enjoys a brāhmaṇa’s property without receiving due permission, that property destroys three generations of his family. But if he takes it by force or gets the government or other outsiders to help him usurp it, then ten generations of his ancestors and ten generations of his descendants are all destroyed. ।। 10-64-35 ।।

english translation

यदि कोई व्यक्ति उचित अनुमति प्राप्त किए बिना ब्राह्मण की संपत्ति का उपभोग करता है, तो वह संपत्ति उसके परिवार की तीन पीढ़ियों को नष्ट कर देती है। परन्तु यदि वह उसे बलपूर्वक ले लेता है, या सरकार या अन्य बाहरी लोगों से उसे हड़पने में सहायता करवा लेता है, तो उसके पूर्वजों की दस पीढ़ियाँ और उसके वंशजों की दस पीढ़ियाँ नष्ट हो जाती हैं। ।। १०-६४-३५ ।।

brahmasvaM duranujJAtaM bhuktaM hanti tripUruSam | prasahya tu balAdbhuktaM daza pUrvAn dazAparAn || 10-64-35 ||
