सञ्छिद्यमानद्विपदेभवाजिनामङ्ग प्रसूताः शतशोऽसृगापगाः । भुजाहयः पूरुषशीर्षकच्छपा हतद्विपद्वीपहयग्रहाकुलाः ।। १०-५०-२६ ।।

sanskrit

On the battlefield, hundreds of rivers of blood flowed from the limbs of the humans, elephants and horses who had been cut to pieces. In these rivers arms resembled snakes; human heads, turtles; dead elephants, islands; and dead horses, crocodiles. ।। 10-50-26 ।।

english translation

युद्धभूमि में मनुष्यों, हाथियों तथा घोड़ों के खण्ड खण्ड हो जाने से रक्त की सैकड़ों नदियाँ बह चलीं। इन नदियों में बाँहें सर्पों के तुल्य, मनुष्यों के सिर कछुवों की तरह, मृत हाथी द्वीपों की तरह तथा मृत घोड़े घडिय़ालों की तरह प्रतीत हो रहे थे। ।। १०-५०-२६ ।।

Hands and thighs appeared like fish, human hair like waterweeds, bows like waves, and various weapons like clumps of bushes. The rivers of blood teemed with all of these. ।। 10-50-27 ।।

उनके हाथ तथा जाँघें मछली की तरह, मनुष्यों के बाल सिवार की तरह, बाण लहरों की तरह तथा विविध हथियार झाडिय़ों के कुंज जैसे लग रहे थे। रक्त की नदियाँ इन सारी वस्तुओं से पड़ी थीं। ।। १०-५०-२७ ।।

Chariot wheels looked like terrifying whirlpools, and precious gems and ornaments resembled stones and gravel in the rushing red rivers, which aroused fear in the timid, joy in the wise. With the blows of His plow weapon the immeasurably powerful Lord Balarāma destroyed Magadhendra’s military force. ।। 10-50-28 ।।

english translation

रथ के पहिए भयावनी भँवरों जैसे और बहुमूल्य मोती तथा आभूषण तेजी से बहती लाल रंग की नदियों में पत्थरों तथा रेत की तरह लग रहे थे, जो कायरों में भय और बुद्धिमानों में हर्ष उत्पन्न करने वाले थे। अपने हलायुध के प्रहारों से अत्यधिक शक्तिशाली बलराम ने मगधेन्द्र की सैनिक-शक्ति विनष्ट कर दी। ।। १०-५०-२८ ।।

And though this force was as unfathomable and fearsome as an impassable ocean, for the two sons of Vasudeva, the Lords of the universe, the battle was hardly more than play. ।। 10-50-29 ।।

यद्यपि यह सेना दुर्लंघ्य सागर की भाँति अथाह एवं भयावनी थी किन्तु वसुदेव के दोनों पुत्रों के लिए, जो कि ब्रह्माण्ड के स्वामी हैं, यह युद्ध खिलवाड़ से अधिक नहीं था। ।। १०-५०-२९ ।।

For Him who orchestrates the creation, maintenance and destruction of the three worlds and who possesses unlimited spiritual qualities, it is hardly amazing that He subdues an opposing party. Still, when the Lord does so, imitating human behavior, sages glorify His acts. ।। 10-50-30 ।।

जो तीनों लोकों के सृजन, पालन और संहार को एकसाथ सम्पन्न करने वाले हैं तथा जो असीम दिव्य गुणों वाले हैं उनके लिए विरोधी दल का दमन कर देना आश्चर्यजनक नहीं है। फिर भी जब भगवान् मानव-आचरण का अनुकरण करते हुए ऐसा करते हैं, तो साधुगण उनके कार्यों का गुणगान करते हैं। ।। १०-५०-३० ।।
