एवं चेत्तर्हि भोजेन्द्र पुरग्रामव्रजादिषु । अनिर्दशान् निर्दशांश्च हनिष्यामोऽद्य वै शिशून् ।। १०-४-३१ ।।

sanskrit

If this is so, O King of the Bhoja dynasty, beginning today we shall kill all the children born in all the villages, towns and pasturing grounds within the past ten days or slightly more. ।। 10-4-31 ।।

english translation

हे भोजराज, यदि ऐसी बात है, तो हम आज से उन सारे बालकों को जो पिछले दस या उससे कुछ अधिक दिनों में सारे गाँवों, नगरों तथा चरागाहों में उत्पन्न हुए हैं, मार डालेंगे। ।। १०-४-३१ ।।

किमुद्यमैः करिष्यन्ति देवाः समरभीरवः । नित्यमुद्विग्नमनसो ज्याघोषैर्धनुषस्तव ।। १०-४-३२ ।।

sanskrit

The demigods always fear the sound of your bowstring. They are constantly in anxiety, afraid of fighting. Therefore, what can they do by their endeavors to harm you? ।। 10-4-32 ।।

english translation

सारे देवता आपकी धनुष की डोरी (प्रत्यंचा) की आवाज से सदैव भयभीत रहते हैं। वे सदैव चिन्तित रहते हैं और लडऩे से डरते हैं। अत: वे अपने प्रयत्नों से आपको किस प्रकार हानि पहुँचा सकते हैं? ।। १०-४-३२ ।।

अस्यतस्ते शरव्रातैर्हन्यमानाः समन्ततः । जिजीविषव उत्सृज्य पलायनपरा ययुः ।। १०-४-३३ ।।

sanskrit

While being pierced by your arrows, which you discharged on all sides, some of them, who were injured by the multitude of arrows but who desired to live, fled the battlefield, intent on escaping. ।। 10-4-33 ।।

english translation

आपके द्वारा चारों दिशाओं में छोड़े गए बाणों के समूहों से छिदकर कुछ सुरगण जो घायल हो चुके थे, किन्तु जिन्हें जीवित रहने की उत्कण्ठा थी युद्धभूमि छोडक़र अपनी जान लेकर भाग निकले। ।। १०-४-३३ ।।

केचित्प्राञ्जलयो दीना न्यस्तशस्त्रा दिवौकसः । मुक्तकच्छशिखाः केचिद्भीताः स्म इति वादिनः ।। १०-४-३४ ।।

sanskrit

Defeated and bereft of all weapons, some of the demigods gave up fighting and praised you with folded hands, and some of them, appearing before you with loosened garments and hair, said, “O lord, we are very much afraid of you.” ।। 10-4-34 ।।

english translation

हार जाने पर तथा सारे हथियारों से विहीन होकर कुछ देवताओं ने लडऩा छोड़ दिया और हाथ जोडक़र आपकी प्रशंसा करने लगे और उनमें से कुछ अपने वस्त्र तथा केश खोले हुए आपके समक्ष कहने लगे, “हे प्रभु, हम आपसे अत्यधिक भयभीत हैं।” ।। १०-४-३४ ।।

न त्वं विस्मृतशस्त्रास्त्रान् विरथान् भयसंवृतान् । हंस्यन्यासक्तविमुखान् भग्नचापानयुध्यतः ।। १०-४-३५ ।।

sanskrit

When the demigods are bereft of their chariots, when they forget how to use weapons, when they are fearful or attached to something other than fighting, or when their bows are broken and they have thus lost the ability to fight, Your Majesty does not kill them. ।। 10-4-35 ।।

english translation

जब देवतागण रथविहीन हो जाते हैं, जब वे अपने हथियारों का प्रयोग करना भूल जाते हैं, जब वे भयभीत रहते हैं या लडऩे के अलावा किसी दूसरे काम में लगे रहते हैं या जब अपने धनुषों के टूट जाने के कारण युद्ध करने की शक्ति खो चुके होते हैं, तो आप उनका वध नहीं करते। ।। १०-४-३५ ।।
