जनकस्य सुता सीता रामपत्नी सुमध्यमा । कथमुत्पलपत्राक्षी रावणस्य वशं व्रजेत् ॥ ५-१३-१६
'How could Janaki, the daughter of Janaka, Rama's wife, the lady with a beautiful waist and eyes like lotus petals, come under the fold of Ravana? ॥ 5-13-16॥
english translation
janakasya sutA sItA rAmapatnI sumadhyamA । kathamutpalapatrAkSI rAvaNasya vazaM vrajet ॥ 5-13-16
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविनष्टा वा प्रणष्टा वा मृता वा जनकात्मजा । रामस्य प्रियभार्यस्य न निवेदयितुं क्षमम् ॥ ५-१३-१७
'Whether Janaki is lost or irretrievable or dead is not known. The news should not be reported to Rama, who is very fond of his wife. ॥ 5-13-17॥
english translation
vinaSTA vA praNaSTA vA mRtA vA janakAtmajA । rAmasya priyabhAryasya na nivedayituM kSamam ॥ 5-13-17
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनिवेद्यमाने दोषस्स्याद्दोषस्स्यादनिवेदने । कथं नु खलु कर्तव्यं विषमं प्रतिभाति मे ॥ ५-१३-१८
'To carry or not to carry this news to Rama would be a mistake. What shall I do? I am facing a tough situation. ॥ 5-13-18॥

nivedyamAne doSassyAddoSassyAdanivedane । kathaM nu khalu kartavyaM viSamaM pratibhAti me ॥ 5-13-18
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअस्मिन्नेवंगते कार्ये प्राप्तकालं क्षमं च किम् । भवेदिति मतं भूयो हनुमान्प्रविचारयत् ॥ ५-१३-१९
'I wonder what the right course of action is when things have taken such a turn? What is proper for me to do? Hanuman once again deliberated. ॥ 5-13-19॥

asminnevaMgate kArye prAptakAlaM kSamaM ca kim । bhavediti mataM bhUyo hanumAnpravicArayat ॥ 5-13-19
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयदि सीतामदृष्ट्वाऽहं वानरेन्द्रपुरीमितः । गमिष्यामि ततः को मे पुरुषार्थो भविष्यति ॥ ५-१३-२०
'If I return to Kishkinda without seeing Sita of what use is my effort? What have I accomplished? What will happen? (Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha are the four Purusharthas or accomplishments in life.) ॥ 5-13-20॥

yadi sItAmadRSTvA'haM vAnarendrapurImitaH । gamiSyAmi tataH ko me puruSArtho bhaviSyati ॥ 5-13-20
