अन्तरा मेरुमस्तं च तालो दशशिरा महान् । जातरूपमय्शीमान्भ्राजते चित्रवेदिकः ॥ ४-४२-४६
'Between mount Asta (the mountain behind which the Sun sets) and Meru there is a shining golden palm tree with ten high peaks and wonderful altars around. ॥ 4-42-46॥
english translation
antarA merumastaM ca tAlo dazazirA mahAn । jAtarUpamayzImAnbhrAjate citravedikaH ॥ 4-42-46
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतेषु सर्वेषु दुर्गेषु सरस्सु च सरित्सु च । रावणस्सह वैदेह्या मार्गितव्यस्तत स्ततः ॥ ४-४२-४७
'Look for Vaidehi and Ravana all over those inaccessible mountains, lakes and rivers. ॥ 4-42-47॥
english translation
teSu sarveSu durgeSu sarassu ca saritsu ca । rAvaNassaha vaidehyA mArgitavyastata stataH ॥ 4-42-47
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयत्र तिष्ठति धर्मज्ञस्तपसा स्वेन भावितः । मेरुसावर्णिरित्येव ख्यातो वै ब्रह्मणा समः ॥ ४-४२-४८
'The sage Merusavarna, knower of dharma, famous for his penance and comparable to Brahma lives there with him on Meru. ॥ 4-42-48॥
english translation
yatra tiSThati dharmajJastapasA svena bhAvitaH । merusAvarNirityeva khyAto vai brahmaNA samaH ॥ 4-42-48
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रष्टव्यो मेरुसावर्णिर्महर्षिः सूर्यसन्निभः । प्रणम्य शिरसा भूमौ प्रवृत्तिं मैथिलीं प्रति ॥ ४-४२-४९
'Bow down, touch the feet of the seer Merusavarna, who glows like the Sun and then enquire from him about Sita. ॥ 4-42-49॥
english translation
praSTavyo merusAvarNirmaharSiH sUryasannibhaH । praNamya zirasA bhUmau pravRttiM maithilIM prati ॥ 4-42-49
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएताव ज्जीवलोकस्य भास्करो रजनीक्ष्ये । कृत्वा वितिमिरं सर्वमस्तं गच्छति पर्वतम् ॥ ४-४२-५०
'The world of living beings is extended to this extent. The Sun dispels darkness at the end of the night and thereafter reaches the mountain behind which he sets (at the end of the day). ॥ 4-42-50॥

etAva jjIvalokasya bhAskaro rajanIkSye । kRtvA vitimiraM sarvamastaM gacchati parvatam ॥ 4-42-50
