प्रायादग्रे महातेजास्तं गंगा पृष्ठतोऽन्वगात् । देवाः सर्षिगणाः सर्वे दैत्यदानवराक्षसाः ॥ १-४३-३१

- continuously moved ahead and Ganga continually followed him. All of the gods along with the assemblages of sages, daityas, danavas, rakshasas - ॥ 1-43-31॥

गन्धर्वयक्षप्रवराः सकिंनरमहोरगाः । सर्पाश्चाप्सरसो राम भगीरथरथानुगाः ॥ १-४३-३२

- and even great reptiles with kinnara-s, and gandharva-s with best yaksha-s, and even serpents and apsara-s, oh ! Rama, they were delightfully following the chariot of Bhageeratha - ॥ 1-43-32॥

गंगामन्वगमन् प्रीताः सर्वे जलचराश्च ये । यतो भगीरथो राजा ततो गंगा यशस्विनी ॥ १-४३-३३

- after Ganga and also, all of the aquatic beings followed Ganga. In whichever direction king Bhageeratha advanced, the glorious River Ganga followed him. ॥ 1-43-33॥

जगाम सरितां श्रेष्ठा सर्वपापप्रणाशिनी । ततो हि यजमानस्य जह्नोरद्भुतकर्मणः ॥१-४३-३४

- who is the prominent river among all the rivers and the complete obliterator of sins. The great-souled sage Jahnu, who was of marvellous deeds, then he was an officiator of an ongoing Vedic-ritual - ॥ 1-43-34॥

गङ्गा संप्लावयामास यज्ञवाटं महत्मनः । तस्यावलेपनं ज्ञात्वा क्रुद्धो जह्नुश्च राघव ॥ १-४३-३५

- While in flow, Ganga completely inundated the field of Vedic-ritual belonging to the great-souled ( sage Jahnu ). Oh ! Descendant of the Raghu dynasty ( Raghava ), sage Jahnu ( who was performing the sacrifice ), observed it as her pride and grew furious. - ॥ 1-43-35॥
