The Blessed Lord said: One who performs the action that ought to be done, without dependence on its result, is both a renunciant (saṃnyāsī) and a yogin—not one who merely abandons ritual fires, nor one who is inactive.
english translation
What they call renunciation (saṃnyāsa), know that to be yoga, O Pāṇḍava; for no one becomes a yogin without renouncing intention-driven projections (saṃkalpa).
english translation
For the sage who wishes to ascend to yoga, action (karma) is said to be the means; for that same one who has ascended in yoga, tranquility (śama) is said to be the means.
english translation
For when one is not attached either to sense-objects or to actions, and has renounced all volitional constructions (saṃkalpas), then one is said to have ascended to yoga.
english translation
One should elevate oneself by oneself; one should not degrade oneself. For the self alone is the friend of the self, and the self alone is the adversary of the self.
