धृतराष्ट्र उवाच । जम्बूखण्डस्त्वया प्रोक्तो यथावदिह संजय । विष्कम्भमस्य प्रब्रूहि परिमाणं च तत्त्वतः॥६-१२-१॥
Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: You have described Jambū-khaṇḍa correctly here, O Sañjaya. Tell me its breadth and its dimensions precisely, in accordance with the facts.

समुद्रस्य प्रमाणं च सम्यगच्छिद्रदर्शन । शाकद्वीपं च मे ब्रूहि कुशद्वीपं च संजय॥६-१२-२॥
Also tell me the measure of the ocean, O one of accurate and unobstructed perception; and describe to me Śāka-dvīpa and Kuśa-dvīpa as well, O Sañjaya.

शाल्मलं चैव तत्त्वेन क्रौञ्चद्वीपं तथैव च । ब्रूहि गावल्गणे सर्वं राहोः सोमार्कयोस्तथा॥६-१२-३॥
Describe Śālmala as it truly is, and likewise Krauñca-dvīpa. O Gāvalgaṇa, tell me everything—also concerning Rāhu, and concerning the Moon and the Sun.

संजय उवाच । राजन्सुबहवो द्वीपा यैरिदं संततं जगत् । सप्त त्वहं प्रवक्ष्यामि चन्द्रादित्यौ ग्रहांस्तथा॥६-१२-४॥
Sañjaya said: O king, there are many dvīpas by which this world is set out in continuity. I shall describe seven of them, and likewise the Moon and the Sun, and the planets.

अष्टादश सहस्राणि योजनानां विशां पते । षट्शतानि च पूर्णानि विष्कम्भो जम्बुपर्वतः॥६-१२-५॥
O lord of the people, the breadth of Jambū-parvata is said to be eighteen thousand yojanas, and a full six hundred more.
