Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Having spoken thus, Vyāsa departed from the wise Dhṛtarāṣṭra. Dhṛtarāṣṭra too, having heard it, entered alone into contemplation.

english translation

After contemplating for a brief while and repeatedly exhaling in distress, the bull among the Bhāratas questioned Sañjaya, whose self-mastery was disciplined.

english translation

Sañjaya, these kings—valiant and delighting in war—are striking one another with weapons of many kinds.

english translation

The rulers, for the sake of territory, have together staked their lives. They do not relent as they strike one another down, thereby enlarging Yama’s domain—the tally of the dead.

english translation

Desiring earthly sovereignty, they cannot tolerate one another. I infer the land has many allurements; explain this to me, Sañjaya.
