Sañjaya said: When the divisions of your side and the opposing side had been arrayed, Dhanaṃjaya, O Bhārata, struck down a chariot-division; that foremost chariot-warrior, by his arrows, caused the chariot-commanders to fall in the engagement.

english translation

Though Pārtha struck them down as if Time itself at the end of an age, the Dhārtarāṣṭras, straining in battle, counter-fought the Pāṇḍavas—seeking radiant fame and accepting death as the price of withdrawal.

english translation

With minds fixed in single-pointed focus, they repeatedly shattered the Pāṇḍavas’ battle-array; yet in that very engagement they too were broken and scattered.

english translation

With units fleeing, breaking, and wheeling about—among Pāṇḍavas and Kauravas alike—nothing at all could be clearly made out.

english translation

Earth-born dust rose up, veiling the sun; and there the directions and counter-directions became only barely distinguishable.
