दैत्यान् गृहीतकलशो वञ्चयन्नुपसञ्चरैः । दूरस्थान् पाययामास जरामृत्युहरां सुधाम् ।‌। ८-९-२१ ।।

sanskrit

Taking the container of nectar in Her hands, She first approached the demons, satisfied them with sweet words and thus cheated them of their share of the nectar. Then She administered the nectar to the demigods, who were sitting at a distant place, to make them free from invalidity, old age and death. ।‌। 8-9-21 ।।

english translation

अपने हाथों में अमृत का कलश लिये वह सर्वप्रथम असुरों के निकट आई और उसने अपनी मधुर वाणी से उन्हें सन्तुष्ट किया और इस तरह उनके अमृत के भाग से उन्हें वंचित कर दिया। तब उसने दूरी पर बैठे देवताओं को अमृत पिला दिया जिससे वे अशक्तता, बुढ़ापा तथा मृत्यु से मुक्त हो सकें। ।‌। ८-९-२१ ।।

ते पालयन्तः समयमसुराः स्वकृतं नृप । तूष्णीमासन् कृतस्नेहाः स्त्रीविवादजुगुप्सया ।‌। ८-९-२२ ।।

sanskrit

O King, since the demons had promised to accept whatever the woman did, whether just or unjust, now, to keep this promise, to show their equilibrium and to save themselves from fighting with a woman, they remained silent. ।‌। 8-9-22 ।।

english translation

हे राजा! चूँकि असुरों ने वचन दिया था कि वह स्त्री जो कुछ भी करेगी, चाहे न्यायपूर्ण हो या अन्याय-पूर्ण, उसे वे स्वीकार करेंगे, अतएव अब अपना वचन रखने, अपना सन्तुलन दिखाने तथा स्त्री से झगड़ा करने से बचने के लिए वे मौन रहे। ।‌। ८-९-२२ ।।

तस्यां कृतातिप्रणयाः प्रणयापायकातराः । बहुमानेन चाबद्धा नोचुः किञ्चन विप्रियम् ।‌। ८-९-२३ ।।

sanskrit

The demons had developed affection for Mohinī-mūrti and a kind of faith in Her, and they were afraid of disturbing their relationship. Therefore they showed respect and honor to Her words and did not say anything that might disturb their friendship with Her. ।‌। 8-9-23 ।।

english translation

असुरों को मोहिनी-मूर्ति से प्रेम तथा एक प्रकार का विश्वास हो गया था और उन्हें भय था कि उनके सम्बन्ध कहीं डगमगा न जाएँ। अतएव उन्होंने उसके वचनों का आदर-सम्मान किया और ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं कहा जिससे उसके साथ उनकी मित्रता में बाधा पड़े। ।‌। ८-९-२३ ।।

देवलिङ्गप्रतिच्छन्नः स्वर्भानुर्देवसंसदि । प्रविष्टः सोममपिबच्चन्द्रार्काभ्यां च सूचितः ।। ८-९-२४ ।।

sanskrit

Rāhu, the demon who causes eclipses of the sun and moon, covered himself with the dress of a demigod and thus entered the assembly of the demigods and drank nectar without being detected by anyone, even by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The moon and the sun, however, because of permanent animosity toward Rāhu, understood the situation. Thus Rāhu was detected. ।‌। 8-9-24 ।।

english translation

सूर्य तथा चन्द्रमा को ग्रसने वाला असुर राहु अपने आपको देवता के वस्त्र से आच्छादित करके देवताओं के समूह में प्रविष्ट हो गया और किसी के द्वारा, यहाँ तक कि भगवान् के द्वारा भी, जाने बिना अमृत पीने लगा। किन्तु चन्द्रमा तथा सूर्य, राहु से स्थायी शत्रुता के कारण, स्थिति को भांप गये। इस तरह राहु पहचान लिया गया। ।। ८-९-२४ ।।

चक्रेण क्षुरधारेण जहार पिबतः शिरः । हरिस्तस्य कबन्धस्तु सुधयाऽऽप्लावितोऽपतत् ।‌। ८-९-२५ ।।

sanskrit

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, using His disc, which was sharp like a razor, at once cut off Rāhu’s head. When Rāhu’s head was severed from his body, the body, being untouched by the nectar, could not survive. ।‌। 8-9-25 ।।

english translation

भगवान् हरि ने छुरे के समान तेज धार वाले अपने चक्र को चला कर तुरन्त ही राहु का सिर छिन्न कर दिया। जब राहु का सिर उसके शरीर से कट गया तो वह शरीर अमृत का स्पर्श न करने के कारण जीवित नहीं रह पाया। ।‌। ८-९-२५ ।।
