श्रीशुक उवाच इत्युक्ता सादिती राजन् स्वभर्त्रा कश्यपेन वै । अन्वतिष्ठद्व्रतमिदं द्वादशाहमतन्द्रिता ।। ८-१७-१ ।।

sanskrit

Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: O King, after Aditi was thus advised by her husband, Kaśyapa Muni, she strictly followed his instructions without laziness and in this way performed the payo-vrata ritualistic ceremony. ।। 8-17-1 ।।

english translation

शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा : हे राजा! इस प्रकार अपने पति कश्यपमुनि से दिए जाने पर अदिति ने बिना आलस्य के उनके आदेशों का दृढ़ता से पालन किया और पयोव्रत अनुष्ठान सम्पन्न किया। ।। ८-१७-१ ।।

चिन्तयन्त्येकया बुद्ध्या महापुरुषमीश्वरम् । प्रगृह्येन्द्रियदुष्टाश्वान् मनसा बुद्धिसारथिः ।। ८-१७-२ ।।

sanskrit

With full, undiverted attention, Aditi thought of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and in this way brought under full control her mind and senses, which resembled forceful horses. ।। 8-17-2 ।।

english translation

अदिति ने पूर्ण अचल ध्यान से भगवान् का चिन्तन किया और इस तरह उन्होंने शक्तिशाली घोड़ों जैसे अपने मन तथा इन्द्रियों को पूरी तरह अपने वश में कर लिया। ।। ८-१७-२ ।।

cintayantyekayA buddhyA mahApuruSamIzvaram | pragRhyendriyaduSTAzvAn manasA buddhisArathiH || 8-17-2 ||

मनश्चैकाग्रया बुद्ध्या भगवत्यखिलात्मनि । वासुदेवे समाधाय चचार ह पयोव्रतम् ।। ८-१७-३ ।।

sanskrit

She concentrated her mind upon the Supreme Lord, Vāsudeva. Thus she performed the ritualistic ceremony known as payo-vrata. ।। 8-17-3 ।।

english translation

उन्होंने अपने मन को भगवान् वासुदेव पर केन्द्रित कर दिया और इस तरह पयोव्रत नामक अनुष्ठान पूरा किया। ।। ८-१७-३ ।।

तस्याः प्रादुरभूत्तात भगवानादिपुरुषः । पीतवासाश्चतुर्बाहुः शङ्खचक्रगदाधरः ।। ८-१७-४ ।।

sanskrit

My dear King, the original Supreme Personality of Godhead, dressed in yellow garments and bearing a conchshell, disc, club and lotus in His four hands, then appeared before Aditi. ।। 8-17-4 ।।

english translation

हे राजा! तब अदिति के समक्ष आदि भगवान् पीताम्बर वस्त्र पहने तथा अपने चारों हाथों में शंख, चक्र, गदा तथा कमल धारण किए हुए प्रकट हुए। ।। ८-१७-४ ।।

तं नेत्रगोचरं वीक्ष्य सहसोत्थाय सादरम् । ननाम भुवि कायेन दण्डवत्प्रीतिविह्वला ।। ८-१७-५ ।।

sanskrit

When the Supreme Personality of Godhead became visible to Aditi’s eyes, Aditi was so overwhelmed by transcendental bliss that she at once stood up and then fell to the ground like a rod to offer the Lord her respectful obeisances. ।। 8-17-5 ।।

english translation

जब अदिति की आँखों से भगवान् दिखने लगे तो दिव्य आनन्द के कारण वे इतनी विभोर हो उठीं कि वह तुरन्त ही उठकर भगवान् को सादर नमस्कार करने के लिए भूमि पर दण्ड के समान गिर गईं। ।। ८-१७-५ ।।
