श्रीशुक उवाच आसीद्गिरिवरो राजंस्त्रिकूट इति विश्रुतः । क्षीरोदेनावृतः श्रीमान् योजनायुतमुच्छ्रितः ॥ ८-२-१ ॥
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: My dear King, there is a very large mountain called Trikūṭa. It is ten thousand yojanas [eighty thousand miles] high. Being surrounded by the Ocean of Milk, it is very beautifully situated. ॥ 8-2-1 ॥
english translation
शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा : हे राजन्! त्रिकूट नाम का एक विशाल पर्वत है। यह दस हजार योजन (८० हजार मील) ऊँचा है। चारों ओर से क्षीरसागर द्वारा घिरे होने के कारण इसकी स्थिति अत्यन्त रमणीक है। ॥ ८-२-१ ॥

तावता विस्तृतः पर्यक् त्रिभिः शृङ्गैः पयोनिधिम् । दिशः खं रोचयन्नास्ते रौप्यायसहिरण्मयैः ॥ ८-२-२ ॥
The length and breadth of the mountain are of the same measurement [eighty thousand miles]. Its three principal peaks, which are made of iron, silver and gold, beautify all directions and the sky. ॥ 8-2-2 ॥

पर्वत की लम्बाई तथा चौड़ाई समान (८० हजार मील) है। इसकी तीन प्रमुख चोटियाँ, जो लोहे, चाँदी तथा सोने की बनी हैं, सारी दिशाओं एवं आकाश को सुन्दर बनाती हैं। ॥ ८-२-२ ॥

अन्यैश्च ककुभः सर्वा रत्नधातुविचित्रितैः । नानाद्रुमलतागुल्मैर्निर्घोषैर्निर्झराम्भसाम् ॥ ८-२-३ ॥
The mountain also has other peaks, which are full of jewels and minerals and are decorated with nice trees, creepers and shrubs. The sounds of the waterfalls on the mountain create a pleasing vibration. In this way the mountain stands, increasing the beauty of all directions. ॥ 8-2-3 ॥

पर्वत में अन्य चोटियाँ भी हैं, जो रत्नों तथा खनिजों से पूर्ण हैं और सुन्दर वृक्षों, लताओं एवं झाडिय़ों से अलंकृत हैं। पर्वत के झरनों से जो ध्वनि उत्पन्न होती है, वह सुहावनी है। इस प्रकार यह पर्वत सभी दिशाओं में सुन्दरता को बढ़ाते हुए खड़ा है। ॥ ८-२-३ ॥

स चावनिज्यमानाङ्घ्रिः समन्तात्पयऊर्मिभिः । करोति श्यामलां भूमिं हरिण्मरकताश्मभिः ॥ ८-२-४ ॥
The ground at the foot of the mountain is always washed by waves of milk that produce emeralds all around in the eight directions [north, south, east, west and the directions midway between them]. ॥ 8-2-4 ॥

पर्वत के पाद की भूमि सदैव दूध की लहरों से प्रक्षालित होती रहती है, जो आठों दिशाओं में (उत्तर, दक्षिण, पूर्व, पश्चिम तथा इनके बीच की दिशाओं में) मरकत मणियाँ उत्पन्न करती रहती है। ॥ ८-२-४ ॥

सिद्धचारणगन्धर्वविद्याधरमहोरगैः । किन्नरैरप्सरोभिश्च क्रीडद्भिर्जुष्टकन्दरः ॥ ८-२-५ ॥
The inhabitants of the higher planets — the Siddhas, Cāraṇas, Gandharvas, Vidyādharas, serpents, Kinnaras and Apsarās — go to that mountain to sport. Thus all the caves of the mountain are full of these denizens of the heavenly planets. ॥ 8-2-5 ॥

उच्चलोकों के वासी—सिद्ध, चारण, गन्धर्व, विद्याधर, उरग, किन्नर तथा अप्सराएँ—इस पर्वत में क्रीड़ा करने के लिए जाते हैं। इस तरह पर्वत की सारी गुफाएँ स्वर्गलोकों के निवासियों से भरी रहती हैं। ॥ ८-२-५ ॥
