जनो जनस्यादिशतेऽसतीं मतिं यया प्रपद्येत दुरत्ययं तमः । त्वं त्वव्ययं ज्ञानममोघमञ्जसा प्रपद्यते येन जनो निजं पदम् ॥ ८-२४-५१ ॥
A materialistic so-called guru instructs his materialistic disciples about economic development and sense gratification, and because of such instructions the foolish disciples continue in the materialistic existence of ignorance. But Your Lordship gives knowledge that is eternal, and the intelligent person receiving such knowledge is quickly situated in his original constitutional position. ॥ 8-24-51 ॥

तथाकथित भौतिकतावादी गुरु अपने भौतिकतावादी शिष्यों को आर्थिक विकास एवं इन्द्रियतृप्ति के विषय में उपदेश देता है और ऐसे उपदेशों से मूर्ख शिष्य अज्ञान के भौतिक संसार में पड़े रहते है। किन्तु आप शाश्वत ज्ञान प्रदान करते हैं और बुद्धिमान् व्यक्ति ऐसा ज्ञान प्राप्त करके तुरन्त ही अपनी मूल वैधानिक स्थिति को प्राप्त कर लेता है। ॥ ८-२४-५१ ॥

त्वं सर्वलोकस्य सुहृत्प्रियेश्वरो ह्यात्मा गुरुर्ज्ञानमभीष्टसिद्धिः । तथापि लोको न भवन्तमन्धधीर्जानाति सन्तं हृदि बद्धकामः ॥ ८-२४-५२ ॥
My Lord, You are the supreme well-wishing friend of everyone, the dearmost friend, the controller, the Supersoul, the supreme instructor and the giver of supreme knowledge and the fulfillment of all desires. But although You are within the heart, the foolish, because of lusty desires in the heart, cannot understand You. ॥ 8-24-52 ॥

हे प्रभु! आप सबों के परम हितैषी तथा प्रियतम मित्र, नियन्ता, परमात्मा, परम उपदेशक, परम ज्ञान के दाता तथा समस्त इच्छाओं को पूरा करने वाले हैं। यद्यपि आप हृदय में रहते हैं, किन्तु हृदय में बसी कामेच्छाओं के कारण मूर्ख व्यक्ति आपको समझ नहीं पाता। ॥ ८-२४-५२ ॥

तं त्वामहं देववरं वरेण्यं प्रपद्य ईशं प्रतिबोधनाय । छिन्ध्यर्थदीपैर्भगवन् वचोभिर्ग्रन्थीन् हृदय्यान् विवृणु स्वमोकः ॥ ८-२४-५३ ॥
O Supreme Lord, for self-realization I surrender unto You, who are worshiped by the demigods as the supreme controller of everything. By Your instructions, exposing life’s purpose, kindly cut the knot from the core of my heart and let me know the destination of my life. ॥ 8-24-53 ॥

हे परमेश्वर! आत्म-साक्षात्कार के लिए मैं आपकी शरण ग्रहण करता हूँ। आप सभी वस्तुओं के परम नियन्ता के रूप में देवताओं द्वारा पूजित होते हैं। आप अपने उपदेशों से जीवन के प्रयोजन को प्रकट करते हुए कृपया मेरे हृदय की ग्रंथि को काट दीजिये और मुझे जीवन का लक्ष्य बतलाइये। ॥ ८-२४-५३ ॥

Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: When Satyavrata had thus prayed to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who had assumed the form of a fish, the Lord, while moving in the water of inundation, explained to him the Absolute Truth. ॥ 8-24-54 ॥

शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने आगे कहा : जब सत्यव्रत ने मत्स्य रूप धारण करने वाले भगवान् से इस प्रकार प्रार्थना की तो उसको बाढ़ के जल में विचरण करते हुए भगवान् ने परम सत्य के विषय में उपदेश दिया। ॥ ८-२४-५४ ॥

पुराणसंहितां दिव्यां साङ्ख्ययोगक्रियावतीम् । सत्यव्रतस्य राजर्षेरात्मगुह्यमशेषतः ॥ ८-२४-५५ ॥
The Supreme Personality of Godhead thus explained to King Satyavrata the spiritual science known as sāṅkhya-yoga, the science by which one distinguishes between matter and spirit [in other words, bhakti-yoga], along with the instructions contained in the Purāṇas [the old histories] and the saṁhitās. The Lord explained Himself in all these literatures. ॥ 8-24-55 ॥

इस प्रकार भगवान् ने राजा सत्यव्रत को वह आध्यात्मिक विज्ञान बतलाया जो सांख्ययोग कहलाता है, जिससे पदार्थ तथा आत्मा का अन्तर (अर्थात् भक्तियोग) जाना जाता है। इसके साथ ही भगवान् ने पुराणों (प्राचीन इतिहास) तथा संहिताओं में पाये जाने वाले उपदेश भी बतलाये। भगवान् ने इन सारे ग्रंथों में अपनी व्याख्या की है। ॥ ८-२४-५५ ॥
