तत्रान्योन्यं सपत्नास्ते संरब्धमनसो रणे । समासाद्यासिभिर्बाणैर्निजघ्नुर्विविधायुधैः ॥ ८-१०-६ ॥
Both parties in that fight were extremely angry at heart, and in enmity they beat one another with swords, arrows and varieties of other weapons. ॥ 8-10-6 ॥

उस युद्ध में दोनों ही दल मन ही मन अत्यन्त क्रुद्ध थे। वे शत्रुतावश एक दूसरे पर तलवारों, बाणों तथा अन्य विविध हथियारों से प्रहार करने लगे। ॥ ८-१०-६ ॥

शङ्खतूर्यमृदङ्गानां भेरीडमरिणां महान् । हस्त्यश्वरथपत्तीनां नदतां निःस्वनोऽभवत् ॥ ८-१०-७ ॥
The sounds of the conchshells, bugles, drums, bherīs and ḍamarīs [kettledrums], as well as the sounds made by the elephants, horses and soldiers, who were both on chariots and on foot, were tumultuous. ॥ 8-10-7 ॥

शंखों, तुरहियों, ढोलों, भेरियों तथा डमरियों की आवाजों के साथ ही हाथियों, घोड़ों तथा रथ पर चढ़े और पैदल सिपाहियों से निकली ध्वनियों से कोलाहल मच गया। ॥ ८-१०-७ ॥

रथिनो रथिभिस्तत्र पत्तिभिः सह पत्तयः । हया हयैरिभाश्चेभैः समसज्जन्त संयुगे ॥ ८-१०-८ ॥
On that battlefield, the charioteers fought with the opposing charioteers, the infantry soldiers with the opposing infantry, the soldiers on horseback with the opposing soldiers on horseback, and the soldiers on the backs of elephants with the enemy soldiers on elephants. In this way, the fighting took place between equals. ॥ 8-10-8 ॥

उस युद्धभूमि में रथी अपने विपक्षी रथियों से, पैदल सेना विपक्षी पैदल सेना से, अश्वारोही विपक्षी अश्वारोहियों से तथा हाथी पर सवार सैनिक विपक्षी हाथी पर सवार सैनिकों से भिड़ गये। इस प्रकार समान पक्षों में युद्ध होने लगा। ॥ ८-१०-८ ॥

उष्ट्रैः केचिदिभैः केचिदपरे युयुधुः खरैः । केचिद्गौरमुखैरृक्षैर्द्वीपिभिर्हरिभिर्भटाः ॥ ८-१०-९ ॥
Some soldiers fought on the backs of camels, some on the backs of elephants, some on asses, some on white-faced and red-faced monkeys, some on tigers and some on lions. In this way, they all engaged in fighting. ॥ 8-10-9 ॥

कुछ सैनिक ऊँटों पर, कुछ हाथियों पर, कुछ गधों पर, कुछ सफेद मुँह वाले और लाल मुँह वाले बन्दरों पर, कुछ बाघों पर और कुछ सिंहों पर सवार होकर लडऩे लगे। इस प्रकार वे सब युद्ध में लगे थे। ॥ ८-१०-९ ॥

गृध्रैः कङ्कैर्बकैरन्ये श्येनभासैस्तिमिङ्गिलैः । शरभैर्महिषैः खड्गैर्गोवृषैर्गवयारुणैः ॥ ८-१०-१० ॥
O King, some soldiers fought on the backs of vultures, eagles, ducks, hawks and bhāsa birds. Some fought on the backs of timiṅgilas, which can devour huge whales, some on the backs of śarabhas, and some on buffalo, rhinoceroses, cows, bulls, jungle cows and aruṇas. ॥ 8-10-10 ॥

हे राजा! कुछ सैनिक गीधों, चील्हों, बगुलों, बाजों तथा भास पक्षियों की पीठ पर बैठकर लड़े। कुछ ने विशाल मत्स्यों (तिमि) को भी निगलने वाली तिमिंगलों की पीठ पर, कुछ ने सरभों की पीठ पर तो कुछ ने भैंसों, गैंडों, गायों, बैलों, बनगायों तथा अरुणों की पीठ पर सवार होकर युद्ध किया। ॥ ८-१०-१० ॥
