यदासीत्तदपि न्यूनं तेनान्यदपि सन्दधे । तदपि द्व्यङ्गुलं न्यूनं यद्यदादत्त बन्धनम् ।। १०-९-१६ ।।

sanskrit

This new rope also was short by a measurement of two fingers, and when another rope was joined to it, it was still two fingers too short. As many ropes as she joined, all of them failed; their shortness could not be overcome. ।। 10-9-16 ।।

english translation

यह नई रस्सी भी दो अंगुल छोटी पड़ गई और जब इसमें दूसरी रस्सी लाकर जोड़ दी गई तब भी वह दो अंगुल छोटी ही पड़ी। उन्होंने जितनी भी रस्सियाँ जोड़ीं, वे व्यर्थ गईं—वे छोटी की छोटी पड़ती गईं। ।। १०-९-१६ ।।

एवं स्वगेहदामानि यशोदा सन्दधत्यपि । गोपीनां सुस्मयन्तीनां स्मयन्ती विस्मिताभवत् ।। १०-९-१७ ।।

sanskrit

Thus mother Yaśodā joined whatever ropes were available in the household, but still she failed in her attempt to bind Kṛṣṇa. Mother Yaśodā’s friends, the elderly gopīs in the neighborhood, were smiling and enjoying the fun. Similarly, mother Yaśodā, although laboring in that way, was also smiling. All of them were struck with wonder. ।। 10-9-17 ।।

english translation

इस तरह माता यशोदा ने घर-भर की सारी रस्सियों को जोड़ डाला किन्तु तब भी वे कृष्ण को बाँध न पाईं। पड़ोस की वृद्धा गोपिकाएँ, जो माता यशोदा की सखियाँ थीं मुसका रही थीं और इस तमाशे का आनन्द ले रही थीं। इसी तरह माता यशोदा श्रम करते हुए भी मुसका रही थीं। वे सभी आश्चर्यचकित थीं। ।। १०-९-१७ ।।

स्वमातुः स्विन्नगात्राया विस्रस्तकबरस्रजः । दृष्ट्वा परिश्रमं कृष्णः कृपयाऽऽसीत्स्वबन्धने ।। १०-९-१८ ।।

sanskrit

Because of mother Yaśodā’s hard labor, her whole body became covered with perspiration, and the flowers and comb were falling from her hair. When child Kṛṣṇa saw His mother thus fatigued, He became merciful to her and agreed to be bound. ।। 10-9-18 ।।

english translation

माता यशोदा द्वारा कठिन परिश्रम किये जाने से उनका सारा शरीर पसीने से लथपथ हो गया और उनके केशों में लगी कंघी और गूँथे हुए फूल गिरे जा रहे थे। जब बालक कृष्ण ने अपनी माता को इतना थका-हारा देखा तो वे दयार्द्र हो उठे और अपने को बँधाने के लिए राजी हो गये। ।। १०-९-१८ ।।

एवं सन्दर्शिता ह्यङ्ग हरिणा भृत्यवश्यता । स्ववशेनापि कृष्णेन यस्येदं सेश्वरं वशे ।। १०-९-१९ ।।

sanskrit

O Mahārāja Parīkṣit, this entire universe, with its great, exalted demigods like Lord Śiva, Lord Brahmā and Lord Indra, is under the control of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Yet the Supreme Lord has one transcendental attribute: He comes under the control of His devotees. This was now exhibited by Kṛṣṇa in this pastime. ।। 10-9-19 ।।

english translation

हे महाराज परीक्षित, शिवजी, ब्रह्माजी तथा इन्द्र जैसे महान् एवं उच्चस्थ देवताओं समेत यह सम्पूर्ण ब्रह्माण्ड भगवान् के वश में हैं। फिर भी भगवान् का एक दिव्य गुण यह है कि वे अपने भक्तों के वश में हो जाते हैं। यही बात इस लीला में कृष्ण द्वारा दिखलाई गई है। ।। १०-९-१९ ।।

नेमं विरिञ्चो न भवो न श्रीरप्यङ्ग संश्रया । प्रसादं लेभिरे गोपी यत्तत्प्राप विमुक्तिदात् ।। १०-९-२० ।।

Neither Lord Brahmā, nor Lord Śiva, nor even the goddess of fortune, who is always the better half of the Supreme Lord, can obtain from the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the deliverer from this material world, such mercy as received by mother Yaśodā. ।। 10-9-20 ।।

english translation

इस भौतिक जगत से मोक्ष दिलाने वाले भगवान् की ऐसी कृपा न तो कभी ब्रह्माजी, न शिवजी, न ही भगवान् की अर्धांगिनी लक्ष्मी ही प्राप्त कर सकती हैं, जैसी माता यशोदा ने प्राप्त की। ।। १०-९-२० ।।
