ऊचुः पौरा अहो गोप्यस्तपः किमचरन् महत् । या ह्येतावनुपश्यन्ति नरलोकमहोत्सवौ ॥ १०-४१-३१ ॥
The women of Mathurā exclaimed: Oh, what severe austerities the gopīs must have performed to be able to regularly see Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma, who are the greatest source of pleasure for all mankind! ॥ 10-41-31 ॥

मथुरा की स्त्रियाँ चिल्ला पड़ीं: अहा! समस्त मानव-जाति को अत्यन्त आनन्द प्रदान करने वाले कृष्ण तथा बलराम को निरन्तर देखते रहने के लिए गोपियों ने कौन-सी कठोर तपस्याएँ की होंगी? ॥ १०-४१-३१ ॥

रजकं कञ्चिदायान्तं रङ्गकारं गदाग्रजः । दृष्ट्वायाचत वासांसि धौतान्यत्युत्तमानि च ॥ १०-४१-३२ ॥
Seeing a washerman approaching who had been dyeing some clothes, Kṛṣṇa asked him for the finest laundered garments he had. ॥ 10-41-32 ॥

कपड़ा रँगने वाले एक धोबी को अपनी ओर आते देखकर कृष्ण ने उससे उत्तमोत्तम धुले वस्त्र माँगे। ॥ १०-४१-३२ ॥

देह्यावयोः समुचितान्यङ्ग वासांसि चार्हतोः । भविष्यति परं श्रेयो दातुस्ते नात्र संशयः ॥ १०-४१-३३ ॥
[Lord Kṛṣṇa said:] Please give suitable garments to the two of Us, who certainly deserve them. If you grant this charity, you will undoubtedly receive the greatest benefit. ॥ 10-41-33 ॥

[भगवान् कृष्ण ने कहा]: कृपया हम दोनों को उपयुक्त वस्त्र दे दीजिये क्योंकि हम इनके योग्य हैं। यदि आप यह दान देंगे तो इसमें सन्देह नहीं कि आपको सबसे बड़ा लाभ प्राप्त होगा। ॥ १०-४१-३३ ॥

स याचितो भगवता परिपूर्णेन सर्वतः । साक्षेपं रुषितः प्राह भृत्यो राज्ञः सुदुर्मदः ॥ १०-४१-३४ ॥
Thus requested by the Supreme Lord, who is perfectly complete in all respects, that arrogant servant of the King became angry and replied insultingly. ॥ 10-41-34 ॥

सभी प्रकार से परिपूर्ण भगवान् द्वारा इस प्रकार याचना किये जाने पर राजा का वह घमंडी नौकर क्रुद्ध हो उठा और अपमान-भरे वचनों में बोला। ॥ १०-४१-३४ ॥

ईदृशान्येव वासांसी नित्यं गिरिवनेचराः । परिधत्त किमुद्वृत्ता राजद्रव्याण्यभीप्सथ ॥ १०-४१-३५ ॥
[The washerman said:] You impudent boys! You’re accustomed to roaming the mountains and forests, and yet You would dare put on such clothes as these! These are the King’s possessions You’re asking for! ॥ 10-41-35 ॥

[धोबी ने कहा]: अरे उद्दंड बालको! तुम पर्वतों तथा जंगलों में घूमने के आदी हो फिर भी तुम इस तरह के वस्त्रों को पहनने का साहस कर रहे हो। तुम जिन्हें माँग रहे हो वे राजा की सम्पत्ति हैं। ॥ १०-४१-३५ ॥
