सौवर्णश‍ृङ्गाटकहर्म्यनिष्कुटैः श्रेणीसभाभिर्भवनैरुपस्कृताम् । वैदूर्यवज्रामलनीलविद्रुमैर्मुक्ताहरिद्भिर्वलभीषु वेदिषु ।। १०-४१-२१ ।।

The main intersections were fashioned of gold, and there were mansions with private pleasure gardens, along with guildhalls and many other buildings. Mathurā resounded with the calls of peacocks and pet turtledoves, who sat in the small openings of the lattice windows and on the gem-studded floors, and also on the columned balconies and on the ornate rafters in front of the houses. ।। 10-41-21 ।।

मुख्य चौराहे सोने से बनाये गये थे और इसकी इमारतों के साथ निजी विश्राम-उद्यान थे, साथ ही व्यापारिकों के सभाभवन तथा अन्य अनेक इमारतें थीं। मथुरा उन मोर तथा पालतू कबूतरों की बोलियों से गूँज रहा था, जो जालीदार खिड़कियों के छेदों पर, रत्नजटित फर्शों पर तथा ख भेदार छज्जों और घरों के सामने के सज्जित धरनों पर बैठे थे। ।। १०-४१-२१ ।।

These balconies and rafters were adorned with vaidūrya stones, diamonds, crystal quartz, sapphires, coral, pearls and emeralds. All the royal avenues and commercial streets were sprinkled with water, as were the side roads and courtyards, and flower garlands, newly grown sprouts, parched grains and rice had been scattered about everywhere. ।। 10-41-22 ।।

ये छज्जे तथा धरने वैदूर्य मणियों, हीरों, स्फटिकों, नीलमों, मूँगों, मोतियों तथा हरित मणियों से सजाये गये थे। समस्त राजमार्गों तथा व्यापारिक गलियों में जल का छिडक़ाव हुआ था। इसी तरह पार्श्वगलियों तथा चबूतरों को भी सींचा गया था। सर्वत्र फूल मालाएँ, नव अंकुरित जौ, लावा तथा अक्षत बिखेरे हुए थे। ।। १०-४१-२२ ।।

Gracing the houses’ doorways were elaborately decorated pots filled with water, which were bedecked with mango leaves, smeared with yogurt and sandalwood paste, and encircled by flower petals and ribbons. Near the pots were flags, rows of lamps, bunches of flowers and the trunks of banana and betel-nut trees. ।। 10-41-23 ।।

घरों के दरवाजों के प्रवेशमार्ग पर जल से भरे सुसज्जित घड़े शोभा दे रहे थे जिन्हें आम की पत्तियों से अलंकृत किया गया था और दही तथा चन्दनलेप से पोता गया था। उनके चारों ओर फूल की पंखडिय़ाँ तथा फीते लपेटे हुए थे। इन घड़ों के पास झंडियाँ, दीपों की पंक्ति, फूलों के गुच्छे, केलों के तथा सुपारी के वृक्षों के तने थे। ।। १०-४१-२३ ।।

The women of Mathurā hurriedly assembled and went forth to see the two sons of Vasudeva as They entered the city on the King’s road, surrounded by Their cowherd boyfriends. Some of the women, my dear King, eagerly climbed to the roofs of their houses to see Them. ।। 10-41-24 ।।

Some of the ladies put their clothes and ornaments on backwards, others forgot one of their earrings or ankle bells, and others applied makeup to one eye but not the other. ।। 10-41-25 ।।

कुछ स्त्रियों ने अपने वस्त्र तथा गहने उल्टे पहन लिये, कुछ अपना एक कुंडल या पायल पहनना भूल गईं और अन्यों ने केवल एक आँख में अंजन लगाया, दूसरी में लगा ही न पाईं। ।। १०-४१-२५ ।।
